I watched ST:TOS at original airing as a child in the 1960's and have re-watched the series many times since. Since I got Netflix, I began rewatching the HD version and am very impressed. The picture is so big and clear you can clearly see the stunt doubles in fight scenes for example. I first noticed some space scenes looked better than I remembered in Wrath of Khan and The Trouble With Tribbles thinking, wow, that looks so great in HD!

Last night I watched The Doomsday Machine and that was the clincher. The space scenes looked so good and natural I thought - did it look like this as originally aired? Then I went to bed and began replaying the epsiode in my mind and recalled much cruder space scenes. Yes, it was remastered and it does look much better! I disagree with the comment from Jon Rubin "Trek didn’t NEED an update. Those old-style optical effects and model shots wear well in HD transfers" - film transfers but cheap fx and crude models do not xfer well. Many space scenes looked bad then and worse today. I LOVE the new make over, it looks GREAT and fits very naturally. It is almost like it was always this way and my memories of the bad fx were figments!

Just saw "Where No Man Has Gone Before" on watchtrek .com Sorry, but I think the CGI makeover was a mistake. Kind of jarring and they have already aged worse than the old effects.

I think the original Star Trek series (1966 - 1969) beats ST The Next Generation (1987 - 1994) hands down! (with and without CGI)

What do you all think ?

When will the Original Star Trek Series remastered in CGI start running again on television?
It premiered for the 40th anniversary on September 16, 2006 and ended this run in July 2009. Was it broadcast on the UPN and FOX networks just to promote sales of the new remastered DVD releases? I certainly hope that's not the case.

Several scenes have been deleted in the makeovers, unfortunately:

Assignment Earth: Roberta Lincoln is wrestling with Spock and pulls off his cap in the tussle, just before Gary Seven escapes through his transporter. - DELETED.

Requiem for Methusela:
"To be human is to be complex. You can't avoid a little ugliness... from within and from without." [Piano]
"Why don't you play the waltz, Mr. Spock?"
"To be human is also to seek pleasure, to laugh, to dance."
"Rayna is a most accomplished dancer."
- DELETED.

Dagger of the Mind:
Many seconds of Dr. Helen Noel's crawling on her hands and knees through a long air duct - DELETED.

... to name a few.

Why can't the gays just leave the past alone?
The world is best with them in the closet:
The Louvre Rocks, etc.
Bad is bad.
Too much of it is a bad thing.
Peace. Rock Out!

re: roebeet

I feel the Enterprise IS a character.

And, in fact, her new look, imo, SUCKS!

She had the best look industry could do at the time. Always a good thing.
She now has a somewhat less.

FVCK those who tolerate the rewriting of history.
