Agreed Pascale.
Cyberian... I am sorry. I cannot follow your post. You state that actors don't make the show... yet it sounds like only Shatner and Nimoy are the only ones who can play the parts. Can you clarify that for me?
Shatner and Nimoy have created huge shoes to fill... but for the story to continue "visually" into the future, someone else must eventually atempt to fill those shoes. It's just a reality when flesh and blood actors play heroic charactors.... agreed?

After reading through every single post above, I am incredulous that not a single poster (poser?) 'gets it'!!! The 'magic' that was ST TOS was NOT generated by the actors portraying those characters. It was made by the CREATOR of those characters! Roddenberry brought Trek (and Kirk, Spock, Bones, and the rest) "to life"...pure and simple! And the ebb of that magic can be traced EXACTLY to the 'passing of the torch' to Berman and his bean-counters. Actors don't create movies, nor even characters. They merely flesh out the roles created FOR them. I would strongly agree that the Shat and Nimoy sunk their teeth into the roles, and indelibly stamped them with their imprimatur, and for that fact alone, they DESERVE to CONTINUE to fill those roles just as long as they wish.

To all of you hankering for a NEW crew, FINE! Then create NEW characters for those new actors to brand as THEIR own, instead of trying to shoe-horn them into the shoes of giants.

The key to the success or failure of ANY Trek-oriented 'enterprise lies in the writers being able to regenerate the magic that Roddenberry delivered with such ease and regularity. The 'franchise' did not fail because of the acting, nor because of dropping box office. No, it failed because Berman was handed the keys to the kingdom, but hadn't a clue as to what had made it work so well. He was, and remains, a money-man. He milked the momentum he inherited from Roddenberry's genius, but could generate none of his own, no more than Majel Barrett Roddenberry could.

The main reason I'd strongly support any venture incorporating NImoy and Shatner is precisely because I think they, in their wisdom that comes with age, DO 'get it'...They DO know what made those first TV episodes, with their absurdly poor special effects, and comic-book uniforms, work. As they worked through their 'post-Trek' careers, I think they came to a deeper and deeper appreciationi for what a gift Roddenberry had given them, casting them to play such iconic characters. And I think they will bring that appreciation and integrity to the soundstage with them, if they are asked to once again reprise the roles that have garnered them such fame and adoration.

For the few assholes up here that actually think they even deserve to post an opinion, no matter how assinine, poorly reasoned (if at all), or flying in the face of logic, go back to your 70's show re-runs and leave the posting to people who can put a coherent sentence together.

They should get Joe Pesci to play Kirk .So instead of multicultural actors and aliens playing leads they should just have an all-brooklyn cast.Heck there's enough characters in that borough to cast the whole movie.

Can anyone at all answer this? Not a challenge just a question of mine.
I'm wondering IF they plan on updating and showing the ORIGINAL pilot of Star Trek in it entirety? I can't recall reading that anywhere and would like to know if thats part of their plans.
Thank You For Your Help - Input!

This is an example of how the mere mention of Captain Kirk's return gets people passionate about Star Trek again.

In my opinion his return (along with Mr Nimoy as Spock) is a no brainer. The public would eat it up.

Wow... did that story generate comments. Bear with a few of mine please...
  1. Please, no more personal attacks. If you can't let someone else have their say... right or wrong... without going off the end, then please keep your eyes open and yap shut. 8 or 80, it doesn't matter.
2. My turn... I'd love to see Shatner and Nimoy back in uniform, but I don't see how. And adding them in "flashback" mode.... wow .. JJ would have to be so careful not to ruin his story. Old timey mentioned above his thoughts and I like it. I saw Shatner's commercial and got a kick out of it... but it's so obvious they tried to hide his age and weight. We all get older...
3. ... except for the legends. Trek's mantle must be passed... and it's time. I give credit to all the Shatner supporters for their view and I like him too. But it's time to "begin again".
4. I won't argue the merits or box office of the movies, TNG, VOY, DS9 or Enterprise. All had their moments.
5. All the comments above were generated by a passion for this story of legends. Isn't it fun!...
