They didn’t update the FX enough, the little FX that they did do only pleases the old fans,it won’t make any new fans from the lack of FX.You wouldn’t be changing the stories by updating the FX,how does it change the story if Kirk actually fights a cool looking lizard creature instead of a guy in a horrible lizard costume, how does it change the story if the phasers actually look like a weapon of the future?

The reason why you didn't see the saucer shot in the screenshots this week is that it is a reuse from Balance of Terror. You can see that my link is even from my screenshots when I did Balance of Terror remastered a few weeks back.

The weird thing is that the "new" phasers look almost exactly like what I think I remember them to be. The real screencap of the original phasers are a letdown, by comparison. Bring on the phasers!

Can't wait to see it uncut on DVD!

I think the remastering is getting better and better. I'm glad they acknowledge that they need to go back to the drawing board in regards to the Enterprise.

But what gets me is trying to watch these cut down versions. Eliminating so many minutes to fit modern day commercial requirements means such a great loss to the story. While watching "Arena", I could see plainly all the areas where trims were done. I was so disappointed that all the talk on the Bridge while the Enterprise was chasing the Gorn ship was cut. In the uncut version (of the original), Kirk keeps ordering increased Warp speeds and intercut are reactions from the crew. It shows the viewer that the original Enterprise was not really designed to travel at Warp 8 (whereas Enterprise D could travel Warp 9 with no problem). In the remastered cut down version, there is a blend-edit and all of a sudden Kirk orders Warp 8 and we see Sulu's reaction. This is out of context for anyone who never saw the ep. before since Sulu's reaction is based on previous Warp speed increases.

Anyway, I'm rambling and don't mean to be.... the thing that will make all of this work out will be the future DVD releases of all episodes that were remastered.... plus I'm assuming there will be lots of DVD extras.

Matt, that sure looks like the shot I recall. I like it a lot, except for the...you guessed it!...nacelle tips.

I find it interesting that they chose to light all four upper hatches/lights, since on the actual 11-foot model only three of the four upper hatches were lit - the fourth was just drawn on. But lighting all four makes sense for the remastering.

Web reference regarding unlit panel:
