Did I type "evokative" when I meant "evocative"?...Damn all my rushed typos in the past, and any in the future too!...EVOCATIVE is a good word here, as that's what I want this movie to sound like music-wise this time round.

While the late, great, Jerry Goldsmith did a tremendous score for the original big screen undertaking, NOTHING will ever be able to match some of the original cue bursts that peppered throughout the Original three Star Trek series...and to hear just the odd snatch of such evocative music from them included in the new movie would be wonderful.

To clarify my #167:
I was referring to the audio quality of the GNP Crescendo original tracks as inferior, NOT the content.
If anything, they should remaster the those original tracks properly to do them justice.

Agreed, Cervantes!

I just hope it happens before I pass from this world to the next or at least still have my hearing.

It's just ridiculous. Ther'e still money to be made off Trek....and soundtracks are one place where they would certianly get the money of people like you and me.

Oh, to DREAM they would use Fred Steiner's cues!!!! Steiner was my favorite Trek composer. Gerald Fried a close second. I won't hold my breath. At this point, I would just be happy if it's thematic at all...and not just more Rick Berman style "sonic wallpaper". We'll see. TOS music gets dumped on a lot for being "campy". But back when it was written it was NOT campy and I think that music works so well, because when you hear it, it evokes memories of specific scenes/episodes. The only modern Trek that does that for me are the scores for ST:TMP, STII:TWOK and TNG's: The Best of Both Worlds (Ron Jones, another fine composer, he!).

I think David Arnold would be a great composer for Trek, because his work is very thematic. I love the Stargate soundtrack for example.

I'm absolutely agree with you on this point THEETrekMaster... I am lucky enough to have tracked down many a hard to find movie score on CD, and I too think that ORIGINAL versions are always the preferrered choice over re-orchestrations. I hope that MORE of the fantastic Original Star Trek underscores appear on CD release one day, and dearly hope that some of Fred Steiner's evokative cues are somewhat referrenced in the upcoming Movie reboot SOUNDTRACK. They are a huge part of the Original Star Trek series experience for me.

I have those suites...good stuff. But...I do prefer the original tracks over re-orchestrations. As Jeff said, there is a LOT of Trek Music that hasn't been released on CD and considering all the Lost In Space music HAS been released (and don't get me wrong, I love the music from Lost In Space) it's just a travesty that all the TOS music isn't available.

Someone is going to have to step up to the plate to make this happen.

Hey Jeff,
That Varese Sarabrande release with Fred Steiner conducting suites from the show is awesome, as I'm sure you're aware. I know it was supposed to be the first of a series- that was years ago.
Too bad- it blew away the GNP Crescendo stuff of the originals.

To Mike, Dave, and Denise- You guys are not only a class act but a shining example that the future of Trek is in good hands. Thanks!

Andrea. Mmmm...Andrea.

Yes, I'm the Jeff Bond from FSM--and I do hope to see more classic Trek out there someday--there's lots of music left. FSM won't be the one to release it if it happens though.
