to doug 56

It ALL still looks tons worse than the original minature elements to me. Lighting, sense of size (relative to the taking lens) ... I'm amazed at how lousy most cg still looks, especially given that really good spaceship stuff was interspersed with modelwork (in the same shot) in FC a decade back. Hell, most of FIREFLY looked tons better than this too, and that's coming from somebody who is allergic to spaceship cg (as in, Cinesite's SOLARIS had good stuff, but nobod else has rivalled it yet.)

I've seen a few minutes of remastered and it all seems like TAS remastered to me, not TOS remastered.

With 400 or so crewmen aboard it is quite possible that Khan may have run into Chekov somewhere on the ship in a scene never filmed. Or maybe as he was going through the library information, he took time to access crew information which may have included Chekov.
I guess I don't need to see Chekov to believe he could have been on the ship before he ever appeared on screen in the series.
On the other hand, when I first saw the scene in The Wrath of Khan in which Khan makes his Chekov statement, I did kind of cringe a little.
Of course, when it comes right down to it, it is just a continuity screw-up, that somehow got missed.
But I really don't want to see him CGI'd into Space Seed any more than I want to see them go back and fix Spock's eyebrows in The Cage.

I loved the new "drifting/listing" Botany Bay. The fine CGI folks may have even shown some of the lettering on its hull, but my non-HD TV didn't pick it up.

Here's a great idea that may have been impossible for contractual reasons or some other legal nonsense: Go to "By Any Other Name," lift out Chekov sitting in the navigator's chair, waiting to be reduced to a styrofoam polygon, and add him into the Briefing Room scene at the end of "Space Seed"! That way we could *really* establish that Khan in TWOK had met him before.

In the closing CGI of the Enterprise, it might've been nice to actually show her leaving Ceti Alpha 5.

Sorry to complain, but again, the Impulse Engines were not lit. C'mon, guys, do you want to sell us these remastered DVDs in the future or not?

Also, I didn't see any Tractor Beam between the Enterprise and the BB. Surely the VFX boys back in 1967 could have added some sort of beam if they'd had the money. You guys can definitely add a beam in 2006/7! Please, go back and put it in. Pretty please?

Nice job overall; a pleasure to watch.

You should try "kissing girls" while watching Trek Stanky, sometimes it helps with the memory associating a lovely lady with a lovely television show.

Thanks, Josh. (#85) Forgive me if I seem confused (it happens often). It seems like in the Menagerie, it was mentioned that they were looking at scenes from 18? years ago, with Pike and Spock aboard the Enterprise. I also think Kirk mentions that he "took over the Enterprise" from Pike. So Pike was the captain of the Enterprise on and off for 18 or so years? And another line mentions Pike being "about your age" in reference to Kirk. If Kirk was in his mid thirties at the time of the Menagerie, then Pike must have been in his late teens or early twenties commanding the Enterprise at Talos IV. Again, forgive me if this topic has been covered in various forums already, or if I am just "not getting it," but I am relatively new to looking at Star Trek message boards, though I have been a fan of the show for many years. Maybe I have spent too much time kissing girls to know all about everything.

^^^^^ That's why the future Trek series lost some of their prestige and focus,

It became all about "these are the voyages of the starship one among many- yawn."

What's dangerous about that? Or, more importantly, special.

It could have just as easily been the voyages of the starship Hood, Yorktown, Gorkon, Kongo, Lexington, Stargazer....etc etc.

By having a MILLION starships, where is the jeopardy and singularly unique status of the ship being featured on the show?

Starship Voyager. So what? It's lost in the delta quadrant.
There are 5 million other starships out doing other things, probably more interesting.

I preferred it when space was much bigger, and fleets were much much smaller.

That's why the concept has never been expanded on Stanky, it would require some major clarifications.

I can't even recall the exact original source for that notion, it's in the novelization of Trek 1 by Roddenberry, but perhaps it's origins are the Trek Concordance or some other 70's novel or book about the behind the scenes aspects of the show.

It goes something like this Stanky-

In honor of James Kirk returning the Starship Enterprise home with ship and crew relatively intact , the Enterprise Delta shield was made the official symbol of the entire organization.
What distinguished this achievement was allegedly of the original 13 Constitution Class starships, only Kirk brought the Enterprise home after such an extended journey of discovery - 5 long years. And actually, Kirk was promoted to Fleet Admiral as a result of this achievement.

It's never been explicitly stated Pike commanded a 5 year mission, much less as is speculated in Mr. Okuda's Trek Encyclopedia, TWO 5 year missions.

Pike and April (Assuming we consider April valid) could very well have commanded Enterprise on extended patrols, research, etc. lasting weeks and months, but James Kirk alone is commended for surviving a Five Year mission of exploration.
It was essentially future Trek writers and authors of novels and episodes of the newer series that negated and discounted this quasi-accepted fact (During the 70s is when it was generally accepted.)

That's sort of the point and why Trek is a big deal, this starship was out away from human contact for essentially 5 long years. It was an unprecedented accomplishment by Kirk and crew.

The future series make this sort of routine but, in Kirk's era, to bring your ship home after such an extended trip was a big deal.
Look at all of the Constitution class ships lost during the 3 year run of the show, keeping in mind there are only 13.

Lexington
Exeter
Defiant
Constellation
Excalibur
Intrepid

Space is Dangerous! And Kirk kicks ass.
