The future of Trek lies in Abrams' movie, one way or another. This time, I assume, we won't have a situation where the movie producers are butting heads with a p***ed-off show creator trying to regain control of a franchise that dumped him!

TrekNerd: go back and re-read the page. "Effect" as a verb is rare, and never in the way it was used in the above article.

This kind of deal (no TV until movie is out) is pretty typical in Hollywood, and it makes complete sense. No dilution.

"Trek hasn’t ever fielded 2 bad movies in a row - I hope this won’t be a first."

Huh? Dude...

Did you forget Insurrection? Insurrection plus Nemesis = 2 bad ones back to back...

At least that's my opinion. Perhaps not yours.

Anyway, if it's 3 for 3, I think we can forget about any more Trek...ever.

This one had better be Wrath of Khan good...or else.

I used your name on my post because you are well-known in here. Not as a derogatory joke. If taken that way, I apologize.
However, please do not use my posts to set-up an insult of other people

" “Obviously this agreement does not effect…”
Effect is not a verb; affect should’ve been used
http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/grammar/g_spelprob.html "

Actually, "effect" is indeed also a verb.

The very URL you provided bears that out.

Kevin...I'm definitely with you.I really hope they don't go for the gritty ,dark,shoot-up way.Star Trek was a it's best when it presented a optimistic visionary future and dealt with high minded concepts within the sci-fi framework.I remember when I was a kid and everything on TV was so mundane(Trek was on at the 6pm news hour).I'd flip on Trek .It was so stimulating for a young mind.

This is a good idea, Trek has been overstretched as a concept in recent years-- Starfleet shirts and a logo don't necessarily make it Trek. My only concern is that if this movie uses the TOS iconography, which I think it will, where can a series go? Surely the movie actors wouldn't go to TV, at least not all of them, for money reasons, so they would have to re-recast the iconic roles. And if they did that, what shape would the next movie take? As for Shatner and Nimoy, that's a no brainer. They will sell tickets. Nothing is "new". Certainly the spinoffs were not really revolutionary. What is needed is a good story and script, that will please everyone. Well, almost. Personally, I think that although Trek story possiblities are endless, boldly going anywhere on film cost mucho dollars--which is probably why a "Q" movie never got made. I think Trek might need a revamp (meaning a well-researched tune-up, not the cliched gritty/dark/realistic makeover-- if can't wow 'em, scare 'em routine) but that costs, too. One more thing--please use a physical model in this movie, please.

If the new movie isn't sucessful enough to justify a sequel they should bring TREK TOS era back to TV as 3 or 4 TV movies a year so the quality and creativity doesn't suffer as it did with those weekly watered down series spin offs .
