Not a Remastered comment, but I've always loved how Leonard Nimoy says "gonna" in his final line about Kirk and McCoy being insufferable all day. Not "going to"...very clearly "gonna."

102. Thanks Kevin. I think it's kind of interesting how they tried to tie it into Khan/Eugenics storyline, and at least Enterprise attempted to explain it.

Just so you know, I watched TOS reruns as a kid and then watched about 1 season of TNG. With the exception of FC the movies were pretty much over for me with Generations. I have never seen DS9, Voy or Enterprise. So I'm very excited about TOSR and Trek XI.

Ok, this kind of a derailment off topic, but what the heck. In Enterprise, the Klingon Empire (the Klingons looked like the familiar ridged forheaded aliens from the later incarnations of ST) obtained DNA from what they called augments. These were the genetically engineered supermen from the Eugenics wars (i.e. Kahn). Worried that Starfleet was genitically altering it's people to launch an attack against the Klingons they decided to use it to enhance thier DNA. This caused a mutated virus that was killing Klingons and causing the physical and appearently some synaptic changes ( Although never fully explained the new genetic code was probably introduced using a virus). It started spreading through the Klingon empire like a plague. The virus's leathal effects were cured but resulted in mutating Klingons through out the Empire. This explains both the physical changes and why the Klingons seemed a bit more (not a whole lot, but a little) wussy in TOS as compared to the movies and tv shows that followed.

So how they were able to reverse the physical and mental damage before TPM was never fully explained, though Dr. Phlox (Enterprise's CMO) did hint that over time it may be possible to reverse many of the effects.

98. "Exactly how they were able to reverse the damage sometime between the end of TOS and TMP was not."

Reverse the damage? I'm not sure what you mean, I'm not familiar with Enterprise at all...What was the Enterprise explanation?

hey Stanky, you seem to think I want more blood... Not at all, I'd preferred better stuntwork, but I understand they did the best they could. :-)

Oh Enterprise has some BS explanation for the ridges as I recall.

And yes many klingons were made to be darker (or at last more tan). Kor from Errand of Mercy and Kang's group from Day of the Dove most of whom clearly had bronzer smeared on their faces to appear "exotic", lol.

It was explained on Enterprise. Exactly how they were able to reverse the damage sometime between the end of TOS and TMP was not.

The Klingons being from different parts of the planet would not work b/c TOS (Kang, Kor, and Kolath) Klingons appeared in DS9 and VOY w/ ridges.

Here's a picture of Kor, the first Klingon seen on Star Trek made up w/ brown make up.

#94 Thanks, I thought that TMP was the first appearance of ridged Klingons, which by the way is my favorite opening scene of all the films. As far as the darker complexion, I don't ever remember them looking like anything more than slightly tanned white guys in TOS. Take Journey To Babel for instance, they have more hair and the grumpy disposition, but I just don't remember them looking darker than in Friday's child or Trouble with Tribbles.

While we're on the subject, has there ever been an explanation for this apparent break in canon, considering TMP was just a few years after TOS? Were they all supposed to be from Kronos? It would be cool if Abrams had TOS style Klingons in the movie and described how they're from a different part of Kronos or something. Or TOS Klingons are the "elite" class, while "the ridges" serve as the military.

Anyone notice in the leaving Capella IV side-by-side above that the Enterprise just looks thicker? The model seems more sleek... the CGI saucer section is fatter. Also, it looks like generally the CGI ship looks like its "put on a few pounds." I have noticed this in a lot of the CGI shots. Just a observation....
