Looks like they kept the trailers intact for the third season DVD releases…as that description you gave is identical to what is on the third season trailers.

The ones that were apparently edited were the first and second season DVD trailers. I know these go back to the VHS tape releases. I do not know if the laser discs had the trailers or not…I would assume if they did, they were identical to what was on the VHS tapes as these were all released around the same time.

NONE of the releases had the “This is William Shatner or This is Leonard Nimoy, etc…lead in’s”.

I agree, they should put this stuff back in, but since the HD DVD discs will be the remasters, I highly doubt the old trailers will be on the discs or any of the other things that have been previously overlooked.

Unfortunately, I would guess these items of minutiae are gone forever…sadly.

Someone earlier mentioned the ST 45s. I have at least one of those in a box somewhere… a whole bunch of the Trek comic books and that “Star Trek Logs” with the wierd “dossiers” on the crew.

Here’s one for you old timies: I had a point and click C126 and a B&W developing kit. I’d took photos of the tv screen and developed them into contact prints. Hot stuff for a 6th grade boy, no?!

I hope my own son will have such memories when he’s in his 40s…

And yes, those titles on the trailer for next weeks show were redone for the VHS releases. The originals had the ship in it’s nose down position flying toward the camera before showing ‘next weeks show’ with a little special audio. There was a bumper after the 2nd act at the bottom of the hour, which had a picture of the ship and a standard audio proclamation that the show was Star Trek. This bumper rotated with another with every other show.

These things have all been lost in subsequent releases of the show on various media. I don’t know what was on the laser disks.

I wish they would put this stuff all back in the future release for HD DVD. The most egregious is the ‘next weeks show’ they butchered the opening as compared to the original run on NBC.

Was the “Stay tuned” message voiced over a slide or was it actually part of the trailers? Is this the one voiced by Shatner that I mentioned in an earlier post?

Speaking of which, I question whether some of the trailers on the DVDs are the orignal trailers..why?

1.) they all have the same shot of the Enterprise — which was at least a second season FX shot at the begining of them

2.) the title on the trailer is not in the Star Trek font and looks like it was put together strictly for the taped releases back in the 80’s.

The trailers for seasons 1 and 2 look edited for video.

Am I correct on this? Any old timers out there who would know for sure?

I originally hanged a mic over the speaker, but later rigged up a cable from the headset output to the mic input. Even learned to put a resistor in there to lower the level!

A few of the early syndicated episodes had the network “Stay tuned for exciting scenes from the next Star Trek” on them. Cool!

I also tape recorded numerous interviews iwth the cast on shows like Merv Griffith.

Somewhere else I have a scrapbook of newspaper clippings about Trek. Notably, there are a few Space:1999 clippings because it was the first major SF program to follow Trek and it was the natural comparison.
