As far as cities and mattes go CBS DIGITAL'S work has been outstanding unquestionably. Now just think how wonderful everything would have been if they had picked up one of these 5 and a half foot beauties for a mere $10,000 and left the CGI to do all the mattes and backgrounds and such...
(look at those nacelles!)

I think CBS Digital is doing a fantastic job!
The Scalos city, although it is difficult to see it in episode, is very realistic as a standalone picture. It looked like a real model! >;>} Is that really all CG: if so it is very good.
My only criticism is that it is much busier than the original, maybe too much so. I would have preferred something closer to the original matte painting. But that matte painting was used so much, for many different locations, maybe they are going to create different versions of it, different enough to represent more believeably those different planets.
The Enterprise looks pretty good, as far as I can tell (blurry cable feed for local station plus blurry projection TV: waiting for U-Verse and new TV). The only observation I would make is the concentric rings on the underside of the primary hull are too visible (I could see them quite well on my blurry on blurry setup >;>} ). Otherwise, looks good. The exit shot on "Wink" was cool!
And please fix the singer in the credits. Put the original back in, or something.
Looking forward to "Where": keep up the good work!

The new Enterprise is much better, except I think the engine "bulbs" should glow brighter. Bob Sawywer is right about the star field.

I say get rid of the "soprano" and bring back the "electric violin" that was used only once, I believe, in The Man Trap !

Oh my.... since a few episodes into TOSR, I had forgotten what a good job was done w/ the Defiant in "Enterprise." I remember when the first episode of TOSR aired. In my ingnorance, I thought that the constitution class from "Enterprise" had been done by CBS-D. I couldn't understand how they could do such a great job w/ "In the Mirror Darkly" and screw up w/ " Balance of Terror" so badly. Now I know.

As for the Enterprise design from "Enterprise" (god that sounds redundant) it was not designed by Berman. The man takes a lot of flak for being mostly the bean counter (he did give me some shows I was very fond of, so I gotta defend a bit).

Now I didn't really like the design either. Not to mention the hand held scanners smaller than TNG tricorders that could do everything a tricorder from the TOS era could do. Nor the phase pistols being used when in Pike's time hand lasers were being used. Nor mind melds being illegal... the list goes on and I forgot what I was talking about.

"What struck me when viewing those pics it was how good the old-school constitution class starship looks compared to the absolutely horrible design from Star Trek Enterprise. It is amazing how much better Jefferies designs look compared Berman’s abortion design. "

I totaly agree. I was watching the Enterprise block on Sci-Fi last night and I just can't get into it very much. The damn ship is clearly derived from the "ST:VOY" style of design and not Matt Jefferies.

> The latest version of the E still looks too “CG” and video like if you ask
> me.

Finally got to see Wink of an Eye that I captured on my DVD recorder. The Enterprise looks much better now that they have brightened her up and made her less shadowy. I'm pleased. Engines still a bit too glowy from the side but still o.k..

Am I the only one who thinks that the old School E looks as good as anything out there when photographed or rendered with modern techniques?? This is why I hope Abrams uses Jefferies design and just spruces it up a little for the big screen. I would hope for another 11 foot model that emulates Jeferies design with a little flare thrown in.
