I propose a new Trek series where the crew of a future time-travelling ship go back and have peripheral adventures in, around and behind the scenes of, every single original Trek episode, as in “Trails and Tribble-ations” and “Back to the Future 2.”

It would be a hit and re-energise the old show by digitally placing the new characters in with the old shows! It could be called “Star Trek: Revisited.”

It… could… WORK!!!!! (cue thunder and lightning)

Replying to myself, and no biggie, but…I went back and looked at the episode of Foyle’s War with McAvoy, and he’s not as tall as I thought – but he’s still too young to play Scotty.

#61 – not if Spock (who “does not wish to command”) posted on the Enterprise as an ensign and never transferred off, as opposed to Kirk and his command track, which had him posting many different assignments. Kirk had certainly entered the academy 13 years prior to “The Menagerie”. Spock’s age in the original series also can’t be much older than Kirk’s because of Spock’s human mother. Amanda is obviously in her 50s or 60s in “Journey to Babel”, so in order for her to have met and married Sarek, and conceived and given birth to Spock, he can’t be much older than 40 in that episode, if that.

And while I fully realize that its not “canon”, the Okudas did copious research for both their chronology and their encyclopedia, and they place Kirk and Spock’s births within three years of each other. I think the preponderance of the evidence strongly implies that Kirk and Spock are peers and contemporaries, and I guarantee Mr. Abrams, et al, are referring to those works in putting their screenplay together. Dramatically, it certainly works better to have Kirk and Spock as peers at the academy together, and given Kirk and Spock’s close friendship in later years, it doesn’t make nearly as much sense if one were to assume Spock was 25 or 30 years Kirk’s senior.

And yet, Spock was onboard the Enterprise 13 Years before Menagerie (which was some time after WNMHGB). Isn’t that kind of indicative that Kirk was at least a few years (though not decades) younger?
