Hmmm….Takei gets a few “bit” acting parts after 40 years of almost no acting roles (except TOS movies) and he considers himself hot and in demand??

Star Trek was both a blessing and a curse to the original series cast, with the majority being hopelessly typecast for the rest of their acting careers.

With the exception of Shatner and Nimoy, the rest of the cast found very little acting work after the original series ended. But I’m sure they were all were well compensated years later, when the six TOS movies gave the original cast members some nice paydays!

My God, I feel old. i recall like it was yesterday cutting out the newspaper flier with the neat illustration advertising its debut. Going to Hobby Lobby and buying the AMT Enterprise D kit, the Galoob toys, remember those?

John N pertaining to a “general” movie going audience, regardless of quality of film and story and who or what is featured, my point is they will sit home and watch something on TV for free, rather than go out to the movies and pay to see the “same” thing.

And yes, evidently an audience would rather sit home and foam and zone out and watch a zit covered ass for FREE, rather than show up and support a film. Generations, Nemesis, Insurrection, and to a lesser degree First Contact more than illustrate that. The tickets sold ratio for these films didn’t support the 20 million per week ratings demographic.

I’m doing my best here to inspire discussion on slow news days come on give me credit here, it’s the 80’s all over again, Indiana Jones IV, Transformers, Die Hard IV, Rambo IV, oh look! No Next Gen film! ;)

On a final note, I love how you paint TNG in different lights to suit the current nature of your argument.

Here, you ask “Why would a general audience spend the 7 bucks to attend an every two year reunion film when they can sit back and watch Trek in the confines of their own home?”

Yet earlier you stated that TNG popularity was equivalent to “a zit on the ass of success”.

So I guess what you’re really asking is why an audiences would prefer to stay at home and watch a zit-covered ass, rather than go to see a TOS reunion movie with an aging?

Maybe you answered your own question as to the state of the existing Trek fanbase at that time.
