You could go either way, exiting from the side or front... but if you look at the picture there really isn't enough room. The new bay was allready shrunk down a bit to fit into the hull but if you look at the pic, and all the red shirts you couldn't line them up that distance with the shuttle in the center and the doors on the side. Since we haven't seen the front as you say they bay could go as far as needed really, given the long shot of the shuttle landing there is plenty of room. I guess if they cut out some redshirts they could do it with the side door. :-) Thanks Backaroohawk. It was always my impression, however, that Sarek and Amanda exited the bay from the doorway on the side of the hangar. We've never seen the back wall of the hangar bay in TOS, but since the pylons for the warp engines connect to the secondary hull near there, I always assumed that the matter-antimatter stacks were just fore of the hangar.
