"The Paradise Syndrome", not one of my faves. Why did the Enterprise stop at the planet instead of deflecting the asteroid first? Why didn't a search and rescue team stay behind on the planet to search for Kirk while the Enterprise went off to deflect the asteroid? What is the chance that "Kirk to Enterprise" would be the "open sesame" of the 23rd Century? What is the chance that Kirk would be standing on the trap door when he said it? What is the chance that Kirk would activate a memory circuit that would give him amnesia about his identity but not about how to administer mouth to mouth resuscitation and making an oil lamp? If the Preservers were so smart why didn't they let two medicine men know how to open the temple? Why didn't they destroy the asteroid themselves instead of letting it threaten to destroy their children every generation? Will somebody please stop me????

Thanks, I'm better now... ***pant***, ***pant***

"Just remember that it's just a TV show and so sit back and relax..."

Adam, thanks for coming down from Mount Olympus for a moment and giving me your thoughts about my feelings with a considerate and caring way.

Yes, we can agree to disagree on this one, I liked your other reviews for the most part...guess it was because you picked apart one of my fave's so I had a Janice Lester in Kirk's body temper attack!

I am sorry.

Looking forward to your next review and blessing it with cheers!

btw, re the "He's dead, Tonto," quote. I mentioned the other day that I was a big Lone Ranger fan. What I forgot to mention was that De Kelley appeared in 3 episodes of The Lone Ranger, and in one of them he was a doctor. A little foreshadowing, perhaps????

Shaye, you're becoming one of my favorite people on this site.

I never said nor did I imply that I hated the episode. I said the show was a disappointment, that's all. And regardless, it's an opinion, and like an anatomical part of one's body that I cannot mention due to restrictions on profanity, everybody's got one. If my opinion insulted you on some level, than you give me too much credit. :) I'm just a fan, like you. And by golly, we're free to dis-agree!

And I don't think Mike Okuda has as much free time as me to respond re: the blue flame fiasco.

wrong answer # 69!

Adam plainly hates the episode from the git-go, and the whole thing about the blue flame ( now orange!..wtf), was avoided.

The review ( no offense against Adam Cohen) was both insulting and wrong on all counts regarding this tresured 3rd season classic...one of the top 10 shows of the entire series, as taken in a recent poll on star trek. com in fact!

and wheres the BLUE flame spoken of during the entire episode ...Mr. Okuda~!?????? ...This is not right, thank youfor your time.

...Now *this* is how a review should be done. Damn fine work, Adam. I honestly don't think I could have done any better myself, and the other excuses for reviewers on here need to take yours as an example of how to do it right.

...On a side note, those who failed to grasp the humor need to lighten up quite a bit. If you can't take a joke, then that's your problem. Deal with it.

Sorry Adam I missed the humour you were trying to inject into your review, in fact I found it to be insensitive and wrong headed.

Hey I just wanted the BLUE Flame to come come out...as Miramanee asked for and we all exspected... Mr Okuda ....PLEASE FIX THIS?!?

It was a botched effect for which there is no excuse or rationalization.

It shows they did not really watch the show they were "remastering".

BTW...I am native american and was not offended by the episode in any way...just the lack of the blue flame as spoken about in the story and sadly Adam's Cohen's overly sarcastic review of a beloved episode to many.

I have a soft spot for this ep too, even if it has its goofy aspects.

Don't get what's wrong with having the E flying backwards for a while
either. It's a little off the wall but I like it when they do something different
like that. It happened in TNG a few times too... Nothing wrong with it
physics-wise either. Surely the ship can pivot & coast, even assuming
the engines can only 'push' one way, which we don't really know for sure.

Different oops though: an asteroid almost as big as the moon
would have to be nearly round, unlike the pretty revised one.

Something I'm reminded of as these shows are being remastered &
discussed anew is how creative the stories (at least the premises)
of TOS often were... lots of cool settings & ideas, even if they were
stretched to their limits in trying to film them convincingly. It's
something I'm starting to miss, for example, in B Galactica, which
is a great show, really well-made, but which seems to lack the
variety of sci-fi concepts we got week-to-week in TOS.

re: 29 The fly on Kirk’s face, when Miramanne tells Kirok about being prego, needs to be removed. It’s landing on the shat’s temple completely took me out of the story. -- Maybe they could change the fly to a menacing alien insect?
