I have watched all of the Enterprise shows and read most of the books. I have no apologies in saying that Enterprise was my favourite. Though I did not agree with Berman ideas for the show I did love how the forth season improved under Coto. I firmly believed that had the show been given a chance by the networks and studio it would have done better. I find it very interesting that most of things that have been said about Enterprise had also been said about TOS when it first aired and look what happened with TOS.

Regarding continuity and canon, yes it is important but not the be all. In the end this is just a TV show not real life and meant for enjoyment. If you like it watch it if you don't ......simple as that.

I just read "The Good That Men Do" and loved it. Absolutely loved it. For me, it totally fixed the travesty of the final ep of ENT. What pissed me off most was that they turned it into an ep of TNG! It was ENT's final ep, their swan song and legacy...and it's all about Riker's problems? Uh. Okay. Jolene Blalock was write to blast the writers for doing that.

And, for what it's worth, I still think ENT was a very good idea that was poorly executed at times. I'd been waiting for a Trek show like it for years. I love Origin stories. The Trek universe is huge and awesome and complex, but how did it get that way? Who were the men and women that built it, made it possible, sacrificed for it. I wish they had kept ENT on because it was finally hitting it's stride and finding it's voice. It had so much potential. So this book was perfect for me.

Doctor Who is a completely different show to Star Trek in terms of production values and does not adhere to Canon the way Star Trek has.

It's funny how Dennis can argue that Trek has many continuity errors and really isn't concerned with it yet can also argue how it needs not to adhere to it's own continuity like Doctor Who.

It's easy to see he is the most self contradictionary person around here and anyone who visits other Trek boards can see he is ego-tripping all over the place.

To be quite Frank, if he thinks Continuity is the problem with Television Shows and movies and that lack of it is what makes something good then he really doesn't know what he's talking about and seems more interested in been right. How dull.

Good writing, acting and direction makes a show good. Continuity kept or not kept is not the most important as this obsessed Star Trek fan would have us believe.

I have just ordered “The Good That Men Do” and I am looking forward to reading it. I don’t normally read trek novels but I have all of ENT on DVD and enjoyed watching it.
I am interested in seeing how they bring back Trip and where season five could have gone.

Regarding “canon” I do like Star Trek’s history to tie in thought-out all of the shows. I enjoy the fact that they do all tie in.
I think there is always an unexplained explanation for these mistakes or creative license used in a story or script. It just has been written yet.

While we wait to find out what the writers answers are for these discrepancies, I just have a guess at what the eventual answer THEY eventually come up with could be. So it doesn’t bother me too much. But I do like it when we do find out. It just takes a little bit of imagination while you wait that’s all.

Here's a suggestion for all of you canonistas... DON'T see the movie, STOP posting on this site, DON'T read the books, DON'T watch any other series than TOS. This way you'll be happy, your whole Trek universe will consist of only the 3 seasons of TOS. Let the rest of us enjoy the rest of the Star Trek universe and the upcoming movie. We get it ... you don't like anything that isn't TOS. Let's move on already.

Stillkirok,

It is such an easy solution for your likes and dislikes.

It's called "choice".

You dislike something, avoid it. Don't associate with it.
It obviously pains you to even think that these other Treks existed, let alone someone might like like them.
I am sorry you feel that way, but it's your Choice. There's that word again.

It must have been awful sitting there week after week for 20 years with a gun to your head watching TV shows that you didn't like.

Now I sit and wait to be told how wrong I am and even be insulted a few times.

#36: Bad story telling will kill any show, anytime. It happened to all the Trek series, including TOS. Not following canon, as in "sheer hatred for TOS", or not following it to a 'T' as some here would consider a crime, is really not a Big Deal, and not a show breaker.

Every see "Smallville"? Now here is a show that chucks canon out the window as much or more that Trek or Dr. Who show. By canon definitions flown around here, it should have never lasted the fist season. Yet, "Smallville" is in its 6th season, 128 eps., and counting, and seems to be going strong. Why? Good story telling for the most part. Format too, I suppose. Let's call it what it is, a teen/young adult soap.

How about the current "Battlestar Galactica"? I remember the original gripes. "It doesn't follow canon of the original." Well, the original is swill compared to the new. Great story telling in the current version has me, and its fans, riveted to show weekly. It's not your father's 1970's prime time family viewing, mind you, but it tells great stories about the human condition the original BS never did and that Star Trek did (does) at its best.

I like Star Trek, all of it. I've been watching it since the '70's when I could see it in syndication, sometimes 2-3 times a day. I read all the novels that came out in the 80's-90's. (Come to think of it, I like a lot of sci-fi).

I never once thought an entire series, novel, or movie was bad because it took liberties with canon. However, tell a bad or uninteresting story, then that's another matter. For a series, tell enough bad stories in a row, then it dies.

So I'll repeat, canon, BFD. Star Trek is science *fiction*, not science *fact*. Fiction = story. Tell good stories, even bend canon now and then, no one will hardly notice.

I'm look forward to ST XI, no matter where it plants itself in the time line. Then I judge it on its story. As for the books announced above, I'll reserve judgment until I've read them.
