Proof That Recasting Can Work

…case closed

This is from a comedic Turkish take on "The Man Trap" from 1973 titled "Turist Ömer Uzay Yolunda," or "Omer the Tourist in Star Trek."

Uzay Yulunda is just one of a series of ‘Turist Omer’ films from the 60s and70s.

…and the above was just part 1!

All I know is that if this “recasting” and “reimagining” were being proposed by G. Lucas instead of JJ Abrams, fanboys would be melting down into puddles of concentrated liquid nerd.

Regis Philbin looks more like Kirk than Matt Damon.

Ok…..where was this from? It makes traditional B films look like Star Wars.
Please supply more info on this. Its so cheesy! I better air-out my labtop….

Are you taking notes J.J.?

Never heard of this before . . . the scary part is that they clearly spent several lira on the sets. Quite nice, in fact, at least for the bridge. (We’ll just pretend for the duration of this post that we didn’t see the cardboard transporter room or scratch-the-emulsion transporter effect.)

Perhaps there was a “concentrated liquid nerd” spill in Turkey in ’73. lol

Frackin’ sweet!

Great, between posts on how bad this clip is, and the quality of said clip, we’ll have our own “whine and cheese” party! Er,…sorry.

It looks like the Turks decided to adapt an issue of the old Gold Key Star Trek comic book.

Oh and the obvious question – since its live action, where does this fit in the canon? :-)

Gentlemen –
I think we have our new cast!
I’d rather see these guys than Matt Damon.

This is awesome! I can’t believe I never heard of this before! It doesn’t sound like Russian. Is it Polish? Czech?

Anyway, I want to see more, and with subtitles….

Oops. It’s Turkish. I can read, I just was in a hurry….

Pretty amusing. Sad part is their production values are not that far off those of TOS! Even though it’s a parody, a lot of love went into the production.

And their outdoor ruins set looks pretty realistic….

looks and sounds more like Star Trek than…..oh, I’m not even going to say it…

i watched it at theater in 74, i was six then. yes its turkish and it is the very first trek movie in history! and if you’d new the language, it is very funny too! the players who plays kirk-spock and bones are the ones who dubbed the TOS in TV!! this is a movie of pure amateurish love of trek and comedy.

re #13 — Yeah, Turkey is no slouch for real-life, real-old ruins. Nice to have such things available as the “cheap” alternative to building sets.

And while the early parts of the story seem to be “The Man Trap,” it seems to veer into “What Are Little Girls Made Of” and/or “I, Mudd” with all of the androids….

Uhura! Ding Dong!

I swear to god that I heard Pink Floyd repeatedly from part 2 onwards.

This is not a film… This is actual footage of the real Kirk, Spock and McCoy that Gene Roddenberry met when he was abducted by the Enterprise while flying his jet during his air force years.

I’m waiting for mullet back-woods Star Trek

That is hysterical!!! d

That Pink Floyd music is from “Meddle”.

I just laughed so hard I almost sht myself!!
What the hell was that?? Gay German Trek?
And the Turkish one was better than any ep of Voyager OR Enterprise!
Friggin’ awesome.

What’s with the android-type guy? Was it a combo of “Man Trap” with a little bit of “What Little Girls…,” too?

And the skeezy guy with the hat? Harry Mudd?

#24 Gay German Star Trek! Funny as hell! It’s scary how good the costumes look, how’d they do that?!

Please someone! Translate that Tuskish one and release a subed ver. I’d love to understand what they are saying. :D

Actually that is turkish and is a film from a turkish comedian. I’ve watched this movie a long time ago and oh man on one hand it is just hilarious and on the other hand just B-Style but that’s also the funny part of it.

The “gay German Trek” is a segment from the German TV show “Bullyparade”. There’s also an entire movie with the characters:
http://imdb.com/title/tt0349047/

It was actually one of the most successful German films ever. :D

wouldn’t be that funny if translated just because most of the jokes are of country’s culture and language and perception all of which won’t make a lot sense in english. for instance, the protagonist (omer the tourist) calls mr spock “pointed ears” just to annoy him, but the trick is the turkish word fo ear rhymes with spock’s name. things like that.

Wow! If anything ever needed a CGI / remastered make over, this is it. As previously mention the transporter room is apochral. Also the old Chevy driving around in part II, shades of Nemesis.

Spookada, do you like a my leopardskin bikinista? LOL

Well, I don’t understand the language, but the body language was repulsive enough.
The sets and costumes were nice and the bridge railing was really red…

OMG! This is the funniest thing I’ve read in weeks!

“All I know is that if this “recasting” and “reimagining” were being proposed by G. Lucas instead of JJ Abrams, fanboys would be melting down into puddles of concentrated liquid nerd.”

Thank you for that! I laughed so hard I was crying and had stomach cramps. Oh, I needed that!!!!

Liquid nerd….LOLOLOLOO ROTFLMAO!!! OMG… That’s funny!

wow.

now i know why billy hayes felt.

/obscure?

Well that was 4 minutes 36 seconds of my life that I’ll never get back.

My Friend, No. 33. – Effeminacy in the male gender is “repulsive?” I’ll tell my husband you won’t be having us over for dinner.
