I wish I could say the money was all raised for Walter's star. It was, but they just increased the price of the ceremony. We are still focusing on trying to get the Walk of Fame committee to award Walter his star by writing letters to them. Watch his official website after July for how to contribute.

#3
Yes, Eddie Paskey, Bill Blackburn, and Frank da Vinci played recurring characters, but they weren't part of the main bridge crew, nor were they signed to contracts. They were extras. According to Gene Roddenberry, Chekov was a primary character vital to show. That's why he was in 39 episodes. That's why he was a featured player in several episodes. That's why he got the girl as much as McCoy. Forget that he was a Russian character during the middle of the Cold War and pivotal to Gene's message that we'd all get along in the future.

All seven of the main cast were honored at Grauman's Chinese Theatre. All seven deserve stars on the Walk of Fame. It tracks our Hollywood entertainment history. Chekov was a much a part of the show as the other six regulars, and only Spock's presence spoke of our peaceful diversity more--and the Vulcans were a metaphor. The Russians were real, and they were our enemies.

This is, in part, what Gene had to say about Chekov at the end of the second season in a memo to directors and writers looking to work on the third season... Dated 4/18/68

"...our most important secondary character this season... is Chekov. The studio has been sufficiently impressed by the volume of Chekov fan response to sign him to a contract...

Our original plan all along (and one we never really accomplished)–was to play Chekov as an extraordinarily capable young man–almost Spock’s equal in some areas. An honor graduate of the Space Academy...even verging on genius... "

(Gene also told them to stop the stupid "It was invented in Russia" jokes which demeaned the character. If you pay attention you'll notice that there were none of them in the third season.)

Besides, Walter also created Alfred Bester...as well as 56 other characters in over 110 tv appearances. I don't think Nichols or Takei's tv careers even compare: and they are the two most vocal people campaigning for Walter to get his star in the television category.

I'm 44. As I've said, if they're looking for a McCoy, I'm the right age.
But... if you can make me 10 again, you can make all the jokes you want.

I just had to be big #100. I have introduced Trek to my 9 yr old cousin as well Chris who loves it but he would not if I didn't (slightly agressively) campaign for him to watch DS9 with me. DS9 with the war scenes etc. got him hooked now he likes all Star Trek. And! Get this, the other day he said Star Trek is better than Star Wars. Mission Accopmlished.

Aaron R.,

I hope you are right. Matt Damon is just wrong. (for one thing, they should get someone more appealing. Kirk was supposed to be a lady killer and Damon just puts me to sleep.)

And for the record, my 10 year old enjoys watching TOS even more than I did at the same age.

"It’s a shame this board has turned into a magnet for 10 year olds"

Then lead us, O' mighty intellect.
Jeez, people were talking on a light-hearted board and it bothered you. Even Josh and I were getting along.
