Strange that a Judeo Christian reference is made in positive light in what is now considered the very secular universe of Trek. Also odd given Roddenberrys beliefs.
Agreed! :-)

#14
The writers or network wouldnt have the guts to put the line about "the son" in a trek episode nowadays. Strange that a Judeo Christian reference is made in positive light in what is now considered the very secular universe of Trek. Also odd given Roddenberrys beliefs.
Im glad its in though.

It's great because Uhura is clearly smarter than Kirk and Spock put together!

The whole pacifist movement being in reality the effects of the spreading faith in the Son was the pivot point of the whole episode, from the very beginning. I suppose every time the "Son Worshipers" (heard as Sun) it pulled you out? That was for the whole show then.

"I always found the whole sun/Son aspect to be the least appealing of the entire episode. It pulled me right out of the show."

Good grief.

re 14

While not being religious at all, I'm also not the least bit offended by this line. It seems to me it speaks to who Uhura is on some level... I never felt like I was being hit over the head with it. It's a great ep. and an obvious cultural parallel played with a twist.

Good thing Captain Merrick didn't have a phaser pack like Captain Tracy.
Actor Logan Ramsey was married to "mama" in the movie "Throw Mama From the Train." He was a good character actor. I remember seeing him in an episode of "Route 66." A little bit of trivia to ponder as we wander yonder.
