Comparing this parody to the persecution of the Jews would be laughable if it didn’t imply deep lack of understanding.
If I have to be subjected to all the Fundamentalist “propaganda” on TV, in print and in films then they can suffer through this 2 minutes of fun at their expense.
It points out the absurdity of willful ignorance masquerading as spiritual enlightenment. If you believe that God made the world, then go out and look at it – see for yourself how it work! The universe is not out to trick you.

This wasn’t really funny it was kinda stupid. Typical, take a perfectly good space travel saga and use it as an anti-religion mouthpiece. Btw I wasn’t offended I just thought it was stupid. Falwell wouldn’t laugh he probably would roll his eyes like I will when I remember this video. Lame is right #20. Yet more jealous idiots attacking christianity. Rules exist for a reason, those who break them and suffer the consequences then attack a group of people who following the same rules without anything bad happening to them. when TV shows have done trek parodies in the past we ran them, when tv shows run trek parodies in the future we will run them as well. we do not make the parodies, just report when Trek is being parodied

as stated, if you have issues with it, take it up with VH1.

Actually, I’m pretty sure the best thing in life would be to combine all of above into one evening….
Maybe add a bouncy castle into the mix too. They’re pretty fun.

As for the whole religious debate here, I think the world would be a much more peaceful place if only everyone would stop trying to boss each other around and browbeat others into accepting any one worldview or set of beliefs. That goes as much for, say, an atheist who proclaims all relgious people as stupid, as it does for a Bible-bashing evangelist who tries to intimidate non-believers with threats of eternal hellfire.

Just be nice to people! If there is a God, I’m sure He’s shouted himself hoarse over the millenia trying to get humanity to do that one simple thing for Him.

One of the most vivid images I remember from the 70’s is the famous image of Christ, “The Laughing Jesus”.
The image says it all. JOY, HAPPINESS, LAUGHTER, isn’t that a lot more pleasant than morbid seriousness and paranoia?

look people…I understand that some people have a limited tolerance for humor. So no more attacking Jon or other posters.

That being said I see this as no different than the Jason Alexander spoof or other spoofs I ran. I consider trek spoofs done on national TV networks to be newsworthy. If one were done on the Fox TV comedy show 1/2 hour newshour that used trek to make fun of liberals I would run that. It is what it is.

“WAS” is the key word here. He might have approved, but one way or the other, he wouldn’t now. I.E., if he was right, he no longer exists and cannot approve or disapprove. If he was wrong, he certainly is no longer an athiest and would not approve of it.

So, he probably WOULD HAVE approved of it. ;)

#44 – You probably never saw the Star Trek parody from ‘In Living Color’ called ‘The Wrath of Farrakhan’ which parodied the Nation of Islam leader Louis Farakhan (with Jim Carrey as Captain Kirk).

Actually, over the years, Star Trek has been used as a vehicle to parody just about everything and anything. So a lighthearted jab at Christianity become just one more of many.

Most amazing how people find stuff funny until the “business end” of the humor is pointed at them (or their group). All of a sudden, it’s now in poor taste.

Respectfully disagree. Star Trek The Motion Picture was not The God Thing….a link posted elsewhere on this site explores the differences. Unfortunately the film will probably never be made, at least with the original TOS cast.
