52. Kyle Nin - June 27, 2007

Yes it is explained as discussed above as Hodgkin's Law of Parallel Development. This is another one of those episodes that could have benefitted from a little retro-re-editing. Since it never really figured into the plot and it is widely rumored that it was done for budgetary reasons and/or sociological reasons, like the Romulans using Klingon ships in Enterprise Incident, a simple cut the the remastered version and the planet no longer need to be an exact duplicate of Earth.

Otherwise, Shatner's novel the Preservers gives an excellent explanation that it is one of many duplicate Earth's the Preservers seeded.

But as I said on Enterprise Incident, unless someone at Paramount intends to make more of this elsewhere in the franchise, it is just as well cut from the story and changed visually to be another Earth-like planet.

They didn’t update the FX enough, the little FX that they did do only pleases the old fans,it won’t make any new fans from the lack of FX.You wouldn’t be changing the stories by updating the FX,how does it change the story if Kirk actually fights a cool looking lizard creature instead of a guy in a horrible lizard costume, how does it change the story if the phasers actually look like a weapon of the future?

Er...I believe that myself and Oceanhopper stated that we thought the navigational red and green lights are NOT bright enough compared to the original miniature's lights...but I am pleased that you are so pleased with their divine work.

I like this web page that illustrates how "Miri" was filmed on the Mayberry sets.

#43 The answer is simple, my local broadcaster showed a baseball game that went over into the begining of Miri, they did the lame "we now return you to your regularly schedule program" thing, so I missed the teaser portion of the episode.

Is it ever explained how there could be an exact duplicate of Earth? I mean, the chances of that happening are ... well, huge. It didn't seem like the crew really questioned how it could be. They just accepted it and moved on. I'd be constantly asking questions about it.

I agree about the running lights, the original effects made them WAY too bright, they looked fake! The CBS digital version is perfect and finally brings the running lights to life in a way the old effects never could!
