Nope, won't be buying it until it is released on Blu-ray. HD DVD won't be around much longer.

the other problem w/ downloads is that they depend you having disc space. And the brains to back stuff up in case your drive fails.

I still prefer physical media.

i have to agree...format wars are annoying.

Personally i look forward to the day when format is irrelevant and it is all done via download. Right now the problem with downloads is that they dont have special features. I imagine eventually downloads will have those

#96 - Michael - that is a completely reasonable stance to take. I, unfortunately, am unable to help myself.

After going through several of these format wars in my life (quad/beta/open reel/surround sound/bus architectures/processor types/DVI/HDMI/ and many more I have forgotten) I really am tired of it and so is my wallet. I used to be an early adopter on this stuff but anymore I just can't justify it. I really don't care which format wins only that one of them does so we can move forward. HiDef DVD will only take off once a single standard is reached.

BTW: Sony has done a great job of producing products and technologies that didn't make it and many that have. I personally am very reluctant to buy another product of theirs that is not already mainstream. I have a $1500 dollar Dolby ProLogic receiver that keeps reminding me of why you should never jump in until a standard is reached. I've read many times though that many other companies consider Sony their unofficial R&D department.

I don't know how you can say he's not un-biased. His site has made a choice based on the information at hand. He doesn't have a financial stake in who wins - so that makes him pretty unbiased.

Sony the spoiler? All companies are about greed. Anyone who has ever purchased a microsoft product has supported one of the most anti-competetive and anti-consumer companies on the planet. And they are behind HD-DVD!

If you want to choose HD-DVD to make a statement on how you think companies should conduct themselves... I guess that's fine. I bought a blu-ray player to watch hi-def Disney, Warner, Paramount and Fox movies at home. The only studio I have to live without is Universal. I'm not spending 300 bucks just to watch Serenity.

Bill Hunt at the Digital bits is not unbiased!!! HD-DVD may not win, but giving in to blu ray is rewarding the spoiler in the format war. Let's not forget what Sony has put us through with incompatible formats, just because of greed.
