It’s Science Fiction, that’s how. If you can believe Spock can have his noggin refilled with his Katra, it shouldn’t be that tough.

Preferably, they don’t explain it at all, if they use him in the movie. Anything after Star Trek VI is not official anyway. (Actually anything after Star Trek IV in my book)

I’m not clouding the issue and I certainly am not trying to get you to like anything. I don’t understand your position and the rhetoric of your post. That’s WHY I asked the question. And I don’t understand why you need to be antagonistic.
And for wasting my time telling you what I liked. Possibly I did, but it’s mine to waste and at least I am consistant on where I stand. You didn’t need to read it.
You’ve Trekked for 40 years…so? We are peers in age and “time served”, but I don’t threaten people because they are doing something I think MAY be wrong on a movie or TV show. Yea, go back to your posts on other threads and tell me you didn’t threaten someone. Or are you saying those were “jokes” now?
You are not required to “build bridges” or like the other Treks shows. I don’t like this being about “sides” or my Trek vs. Yours. Frankly, I see people posting here that “have Trekked” far less years than you or I that have valid opinions and don’t seem nearly as “in-your-face” about it and do get their point across. If your posts are indicative of the attitude of your part of the “(un)happy Fleet”, I think I’ll stay planet-side and just enjoy the TV and movies.

Don’t be silly. Shatner is an actor who played Kirk. Because he’s an old man, the only Kirk he can credibly play is that of a Kik who is also an old man. Since Kirk died when the character was middle aged, how can Kirk-as-an-old-man credibly show up in the new movie without resorting to hocus-pocus?

That’s not the case for Nimoy as Spock. He’s an old man, too, but his physical appearance is much the same as the last time he played Spock. In that appearance, Spock was well into a dignified and craggy middle age. Putting Nimoy on screen as Spock would not beggar belief.

Shatner can still sound like Kirk, however. I like the of a framing device that has Nimoy-as-Spock listening to the voice of Kirk — perhaps from a lost recording recently uncovered and delivered to the retired ambassador. I suppose you could even have Shatner appear in a video version of the recording, so long as he sat behind a desk and they did some didgital magic on his head.

But, the basic notion that Kirk is Star Trek is wrong. If that was the case, none of the other series, none of the other movies, and none of the hundreds of Trek books would exist. Going by the numbers, Kirk makes no appearance in the majority of Trek stories.
