#54: probably because he thought it was a good story, plus there were going to be no more TOS cast films so the assumption was this was to be the last hurrah for Kirk. I think Quino is a good choice, but the problem whenever iconic characters are recast is you'll have some people who will never like anyone but the originals. People are still bemoaning the fact that Sean Connery is no longer playing James Bond. I still say the fanbase in general would swallow the new film a bit easier if Abrams simply said outright that it was a reimagining, even with Nimoy involved. That might even open the door to Shatner returning without violating established canon, if Trek 11 is set outside canon.

I've always wondered if Ron Moore was such a huge fan of TOS, why he went along with killing Kirk.

I had the same thought about multiple actors playing Kirk. I think there's a good chance that they'll be a very young Kirk (kinda like Batman Begins or something), but that most of the Kirk part will be played by one actor.

Have any of you guys thought that maybe they're looking for more than one actor to play Kirk? Perhaps a teenager-Kirk, a 20s-age ensign Kirk, and a 30-or-so Enterprise-First-Voyage JTK?

Another thing- I haven't read any of the novels or fan-fiction for years and I know they aren't considered cannon, but how have they covered the time period we seem to be concerned with? How many versions of JTK meeting Spock are there? We might see SOME clues in what they have in common, or even what the differences are.

The ebay auctions will run well into winter. (I asked, they answered) I won a few neat costumes (so far) and have contacted the obscure actors who wore the outfits, making it extra fun.

Any uniform usually goes for minimum $1000, so I guess that hope is dashed.

Doubt if Majel will make it to the premeire. Sadly, she is in pretty poor condition these days and Rod usually shows up for her appearances. Let's all pray for her well being. She is a fine lady.

To ask former writers and producers from recent Trek series (or even TOS)what their opinions are is not a bad thing, even if they are currently working on another project. We don't have to be limited solely to the people in Bad Robot or Paramount to gain insight into what they are experiencing.
