#54 -- I loved Yes Ent, but I think one of the reasons it worked so well was because we didn't really know that much about the NCC1701-C, so we didn't have any preconceived notions about how their crew should act, and we weren't trying to split our attention equally between the two crews. I think if it had been A and D it might have been problematic that way. But who knows, it might have worked...

Hey i remeber reading that GR interview in what was this issue of 'Star Trek - The Offical Fan Club Magazine' :
http://i7.ebayimg.com/01/i/00/49/8d/69_1.JPG

(not "Communicator" as it was later known) around the time of just after Trek V...

btw those offical Fan Club mags were excellent - I remember them being quite difficult to get hold of as you had to join the actual fan club to get them but if u didnt they were quite hard to find...

I believe GR said he considered the two crews to be like 2 really great tasting soups and if you were to pour both soups into a pan they wouldnt taste so great..

"which is exactly what happened with the first TNG film Star Trek Generations"

I dont consider Generations to be a mixed crew film as it really just featured Kirk and Picard messing about....a mixed crew film would be something like Yesterdays Enterprise where both crews and ships (A and D ) would have met....which would have rocked had it been done right (like in a Yes Ent sort of way - see previous TNG 20th anniversary thread comments 47 & 79)

Viking (52) the problem with Generations being a 'baton-passing' is that the baton had already been passed by Deforest Kelley in Encounter at Farpoint.

Generations marked the first Trek film which was made ***purely*** for the money. The first six films (well, 2-6, anyway) happened in part because the cast and crew enjoyed making them.

Generations was a souless piece of corporate box-ticking, which even many of the cast didn't like. Kirk's and the Enterprise-D's demise were pale shadows of Spock's in STII and the original Enterprise's end in STIII. Thematically, the film soulessly retrod the same ground the previous films had walked.

Certainly, Abrams' film is a baton-passing. Let's hope it does the job well!

Throw her a bone. If she still has the chops, it'd be a tip o' the hat to the Big E that started it all. Anyway, they can compress, filter, and augment audio to the point now that the passive listener wouldn't even know who it was until the credits rolled. I'm actually starting to buy into the notion that Abrams' film may be a more pure passing of the baton than that abomination 'Generations'. It seems like everyone who ever stood on a Paramount stage had been jockeying for a spot in this film, but Abrams has been playing it cool and only got (as confirmed) Nimoy so far. Putting an Easter egg like Barrett in there won't kill the buzz.

If TOS was a person and you were to make a clone of them in the present day, don't you think they would ultimately wear modern clothes, speak like modern people and use modern things?

The new film will reflect today's changes in technology and society. If that makes its technology seem more advanced than even TNG, in places, then so be it: Star Trek (2008) is a film made forty-plus years after the original. Just enjoy it for what it is!

10. Oceanhopper - August 25, 2007

Well, the TNG one would be an anachronism whereas the TOS/ more robotic voice would be consistent with canon

26. sean - August 25, 2007

That’s a piece of canon I’d happily throw out the window. If they do the whole ‘WORKING’ computer voice it would turn into a joke.
================================================
Sean is ABSOLUTLY right! To do the computer voice EXACTLY as it sounded in the 60s would be a joke. A very bad one.

You all need to stop worrying what is "consistant with canon" and deal with what WORKS RIGHT TODAY!

10-Well, the TNG one would be an anachronism whereas the TOS/ more robotic voice would be consistent with canon.

I seem to recall they made that slip on “Thru a Mirror Darkly” on ENT. It made this fanboy twinge.

You mean you want the processing teletype sfx thrown in, too? Even computers in 2007 aren't that loud!

It would be great stunt casting to have Majel's voice somewhere in there. But, as with everything else, I'd like to see them take a fresh approach. This will NOT be TOS cloned, folks.
