Besides that, Compassionate God, you are absolutely right that it’s a shame that the original versions of the show aren’t included. I won’t buy a set not containing the original versions of Trek in HD. I hope many more people won’t either.

Moreover, to everyone, if I had things my way, CBS would not be so aggressive about pushing TOS-R, and respect the millions of pre-TOS-R fans enough to provide the series sans CG as well as the “R” version. If a profit is the real concern, then catering to one of entertainment history’s most established fan (read: money) bases would seem….logical.

Consumer “comfort” counts too. That is why after the old days of buying the laserdiscs which only featured 2 episodes per disc, when the early DVDs (also containng two per) were released, I took a step back..because I knew full well Paramount would sit on that for awhile, then release season sets years later, which I purchased.

Companies can & will always place the consumer in 2nd place.

…but my “beef” is that they want many plain old DVD users with basic DVD players to convert to a dual players or single format players, replace a dozen -to-1000-to-whatever number DVDs on HD (or Blu-Ray), and in the case of Trek, only offer the “R” version to the very loyal fans who may also want the version which made them fans (and Trek merchandise consumers) in the first place!

Yes, CBS owes us nothing, and we are certainly not forced to buy the forthcoming set, but if money is the centra motivator, why would you deliberately omit something (HD TOS sans R”) that would stand to earn even more millions?

#85 Commodore Z: My statement in #81 and #83 still stands. The TELLING part is revealed when others point fingers, but suspiciously AVOID answering my question, which speaks volumes and reveals THEIR hypocricy, more than anything else.

If you make a copy of that same DVD (or a copy of a recording from TV), then you are indeed stealing, no matter what rationalization you might make, and no matter what fingers you might point at others. The world isn’t always the way you’d like it to be.

I suggest that people just calm down. Paramount are not requiring you to buy. You can watch them for free on syndication, buy them off itunes and xbox live (more episodes will eventually show up), rent the DVDs or buy the DVDs…or do none of the above. No guns are being held to any heads and some of the anger here is just absurd.

That’s just the point you MISS; #77 (Hall) posted a charge as though he did not commit such acts, which led to my response. You see, i’ve already admitted to a desire to get rip of the HD extras, but recognize it for what it is–one friend sharing with another. It was not until Hall tried to play Paramount Attorney that the conversation took another step forward.

If he cannot say he’s avoided media duplicates during the course of his life, then he realizes he was the true hypocrite for pointing accusatory fingers in my direction.
