#46: "And to others…this is a toshiba promotion not a CBS promotion. Lets face it Toshiba are giving you a free phaser and 5-7 free HDDVD movies with a player that costs about 240 bucks. To keep whining about being ripped off there is just….well ludicrous. If you dont want to buy a toshiba player fine, but with these promotions and the base price….they are clearly not \’ripping anyone off\’. There can be no doubt that Toshiba are taking a loss on every machine they are selling…especially after these promotions."

Anthony, the so called format war is nothing short of strongarming consumers. The desired end result is the eventual elimination of the standard DVD format--"SUGGESTING" consumers--some with over a decade of DVD purchases (some in the hundreds,if not more) to seek the alleged superior picture, by dropping the old format (nevermind the investment) and starting all over again...and we know the PTB would love everyone to spend collective thousands replacing the standard machines & old collections, while buying every new title the studios shovel at the consumers' doorstep.

Regarding the Phaser remote? Again, the studio PTB being so condescending in thinking the free item is enough geek/Trekkie bait to bite.

As said in another thread, no one is being forced to buy anything....however, the addendum to that reality must reveal a future where no standard DVD exists, so any as yet unavailable but highly desired titles will serve as bait to invest into yet another technology.

We are all made of enough disposable income--enough to fill the Rose Bowl, so hey, what the heck?

...to finish off as I got rudely interupted by the wife yesterday...

Aaron, people here may like Star Trek, but there's nothing in their contracts that states that they have to agree with the views of other Star Trek fans or Star Trek decision makers. No-one here has the monopoly on their own Star Trek related preferences being right...including mine, and including yours. There are many things posted here by various Star Trek fans that I myself don't agree with...but I read other contributers various views and comments, including yours, with engaged curiosity...and it's the myriad variety of earnestly held opinions, and general witty good humor ( and bad humor... ) that keeps me looking in regularly...
Many visitors choose to just lurk, but others like myself choose to actively participate ( when the wife lets me... )...either is fine, but like other certain suspects here, I sometimes choose to throw something into the overall pot here and there...which by the very nature of the comments board, is just my own personally heartfelt belief I wish to share, or just something humorously shallow...just for the fun of it.
None of it is of any great importance at the end of the day, and I don't appreciate anyone else here with equally unimportant Star Trek views to tell me to 'give it a rest'...especially over what are fairly innocuous comments in my #17 post.
I won't expect that of you, in fact I will look forward to reading any future Star Trek related comments by you, and take them for what they are...even if it turns out that I don't agree with them.
I have never frequented, never mind commented on ANY other Star Trek sites that may be out there, and only happened upon this one due to it's extensive TOS Remastered coverage, which caught my eye...but which has been made more enjoyable by the various posters that do contribute here.
However, whether our own particular trivial Star Trek views prove to be similar or not in the future, on various things...I hope that we can agree that this is a tremendously informative and entertaining site to air them on regardless...as it would be a very bland place if every comment concurred with every other...

#25 Aaron R.

I'm sorry that my own personal opinion seemed to rile you so much Aaron...I only speculated whether this particular prop...who's 'basic' overall design I happen to like best myself...might end up looking in the latest Movie... Either it is somewhat very like the original series design...or it could end up totally different. Different people here have different opinions, and as a designer myself, I just happen to really like the originals. If it turns out that this 'TOS' Movie is totally redesigned, well c'est la vie, but I don't need to like that direction, just as you don't need to like my opinion about it either. It's no big deal at the end of the day.

[...] This week I have a “Star Wars” focused podcast. First we start with some news and things going on. I chat a little about my leap into the world of HD TV! We also have another cool book review from our friend the Duffster from Read More Sci-Fi. Always fun to hear more from the book world. I touch upon the current Trek comics that are recently out. These books are fun and have been improving with each issue. Not much new Trek movie news this week. I do mention a cool deal to obtain a neat Phaser remote if you buy the upcoming HD-DVD first season set of “Star Trek” TOS coming in November and a Toshiba HD-DVD player. Details can be found HERE. Looking forward to snagging one of these cool phasers! [...]

The Toshiba deal is different in Canada. The above Toshiba HD-A20 is $499 and comes with Fast and Furious, Black Rain, and Perfect Storm. So that's $185 buck more expensive than the US offering and includes 3 movies I don't want even for free.

Early adopters are not getting much of a deal if you ask me.

I have enjoyed some of the improvements in TOS/R but not enough to spring $150 (in Canada) plus the price of a new DVD player - even if you give me another phaser. I've already got 2 fan era ones, 3 Playmates and 4 Art Asylum ones - all of which look better than the Toshiba offering.

Plotner, I think you should work on your communication skills. I am sorry to hear of you personal troubles, but we all have strife to deal with, and this site is a place we come to share in our APPRECIATION of a TV show. Did you design the remote? You seem to indicate you did in your last post.

Calm down, take a deep breath, think of what you want to say and how someone else might take it and then type. Then, before you click "say it", read it through. Out loud. We are all your friends. And we are Trekkies.
