#58 Sports = real world. Star Trek = fantasy. I like TOS, but it is not going to replace a live football, or baseball game on any network, or local schedule. Don't worry - the repeats are usually in the off season. I'm fine with that. Try watching the game, and you might actually like it.

Ahh, remember the good old days when you came home from school and watched the first run of the repeats at 4 PM? One would ahve to think that Trek could draw better ratings than some of the drek currently being offered up in the afternoons. There is something of a proven track record here.

Poor scheduling and being bumped for sports aside, another reason for the poor ratings (in case anyone has not mentioned it already) is that we do live in the DVD culture; it is quite common for once-regular movie-goers to say "I'll wait to see it on DVD." Similarly, it is fairly likely the TOS-R supporters grow tired of rearranging personal time/finding out football takes priority, and are now just content to just wait for season 1 to hit the retailers.

Re: 52. Mazzer - September 9, 2007
I still think it’s bizarre that the “Remastered” project is done to make ST suitable for HDTV… and then its first airing on TV doesn’t happen in HD.
Any news on whether more of the slumbering stations will be ready to air Season 2 in HD? Anyway, at least the home media release(s) will let us see it properly.

#54 - F.Y.I. Paramount and CBS have split, with CBS taking ownership of the TV shows, while Paramount takes the movie properties.

Basically, they have some arrangements between them regarding the Star Trek property, so CBS is doing Trek Remastered while Paramount is doing Trek XI with J.J. Abrams.

I agree 100% with promoting the Star Trek: Remastered product in syndication.

Part of the issue is that each affiliate decides when to show it, how they want it (Standard Def or High Def), and whether or not, and how to promote it.

Somewhere between CBS-Digital and the airing of the episode, there is someone who cuts the episode down for the commercial breaks, with 'breaks' being a pun in my opinion.

I definately agree that a lot more promotion should be done.

Perhaps CBS could purchase a little advertising time to air the episode promotions themselves, so that viewers are more aware?

Hmmmmm....if I'm not mistaken, Paramount is now owned by...A TELEVISON NETWORK! Hey CBS...why not promote Star Trek Remastered? Here's an idea...absolutely free of charge. When one of your new shows tanks in the next 4-6 weeks, use the vacant slot(s) to air a special 40th (+) anniversary salute to Star Trek. Take a big episode with lots of new effects...say...The Doomsday Machine...and air it IN IT'S ENTIRETY as the focus of the special. Go ahead, give it 90 minutes to two hours. Fill out the remaining time with the obligatory retrospective and the behind-the-scenes look at the remastering process. During the special, let people know the whole series is being remastered and to check local listings for when it's on. And here's the kicker...PROMOTE IT! Have your announcers talk about it during the football games. Show clips of the original effects and the CGI work side-by-side....all the stuff they do here on this site. Think to yourselves...what would George Lucas do to promote the latest Star Wars news? Then put it in front of millions of viewers!! This really is a big opportunity for the franchise. Don't blow it by leaving it in the wasteland of syndication without letting people know it's there. It'll help drive ratings, HD DVD sales and interest in the new movie. Think of the big picture. It's worth primetime exposure.

#52 -- Yeah I sent an e-mail off to Anthony a while back when that same question popped into my head. I was hoping he'd do some digging and post something for us all.
