I’ll say I wouldn’t want to buy this. I’ve seen from the original box sets that episodes look terrible on HD screens. They need to be cleaned up and encoded at a lower compression rate or something.

It’s £112 on Amazon UK which seems a pretty good price for 133 hours of television. Certainly when you compare it to what the old VHS tapes were for two episodes, about £12.99 and that was in 1992 – at that price the whole series would be well over £1156! So it’s 10 times cheaper than 15 years ago – bargain.

Only problem is if they decide to release an HD version in a year or two. I’d be annoyed about that if I got this set.

Re 59: Are they even reauthoring these discs? It looks like they’re just reprinting the original season sets and throwing in an extras disc.

Even if they are reauthoring, I have reauthored plenty of my store-bought DVDs on a clunky computer with a generic DVD burner. Sha1sum shows them to be bit-perfect with the master on my hard drive. If I can do it, I’m pretty sure Paramount can, too. There’s no reason to believe, as some say, that these will be inferior in quality to the original season sets.
