Denny Carne! Uno
great to see him back
Ughhh…Denny Crane! That’s what I get for saying the dreaded “first”…..isn’t it amazing how Bill keeps making comebacks? Even on the internet?
Speaking of comebacks, any chance for ONE more?
Hey, you can’t keep a good Shat down!
Shatner rules.
Welcome back Bill!
If only he’d move Shatnervision to a podcast or RSS feed….
Me never BILLieved™ ShatnerVision© to be cancelled. First of all, come on. He’s Shatner. Anyone else ever hear of Live Video without Shatner?
’nuff said. It was a “who needs who?” kinda sitution now wasn’t it? And what the world needs is more Shatner. Not just Live Video.
Reminds me of a time but I won’t discuss it here. Oh no. Far be it from me to steal the Shat’s thunder.
BEST!!
=h=
Shatner! Still the coolest cat in town!
And who pays the Bill? ;)
Bill. Love ya. No one here’s given up hope that you’ll be in STXI.
ps- Maybe ShatnerVision would do even better if you’d blow a few bucks on wardrobe??
Good to see that Shatnervision is back. Although I hear that Shatner isn’t going to be in it.
(ducks)

I am so there.
Now get in the ruddy movie!! LOL
Even if they don’t put Shatner in the new movie … and even if the movie turns out great … whoever the new Kirk is will NEVER replace what this man has accomplished. I love the character of Kirk, and I’ll place my support behind the new guy (assuming he’s half good!) in his 3 films, or whatever his contribution turns out to be, but ultimately the new Kirk will always be in the Shat’s shadow. Shatner helped build Star Trek. He IS Star Trek! All hail the Caesar of the stars!!
Shatner RULES!!!
SHAT-NERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!! :-D
Woot,, good to know Shatnervision will still be around,
now,, send us a clip saying your going to be in the next Trek!!
:-D
Gosh Bill lay off the donuts!
As much as I love TOS and Shatner’s contributions to Trek, I think it would be sad to see him on the big screen as big as fat Capt. Kirk.
Just like in today’s armed forces, future Starfleet officers need to be in good shape and within weight standards, or they will be discharged.
I think it’s very unrealistic that future Starship crews would be allowed to become so heavy and out of shape, yet still be allowed to serve.
I know many of you here could care less about Shatner’s weight, and would want him in the next movie regardless if he weighs 350lbs. Bu to me I prefer to fondly remember Shatner’s Capt Kirk in his prime- young, handsome, athletic and fit!
Mike :o
Who is better? Shatner or Vogel? *g*
For goodness sakes the man is pushing eighty years old! Let the man alone about his waistline! I mean, when I’m eighty… Well never-mind when I’m eight, I’m not Captain Kirk, but for goodness sakes let the man alone.
I just don’t see it as realistic for him to squeeze back into pants he left twenty years ago. In fact, at his age, I don’t see it as realistic for him to squeeze back into pants he was wearing five years ago…
He’s always going to be my hero. Well, he’s always going to be the man who played the character who was my hero, anyway – I am capable of differentiation between the two…
I say let the man wear grey sweatpants everyplace he goes at this point in his life, he’s earned the right.
Period.
Cam

You type well for a seven year old.
I say hear, hear. Denny Crane should wear sweat pants.
People ask, “what about the Shat’s wardrobe?”
And I say, “no sweat………..pants!”
Only kidding THX!!
You can’t keep The Shat down for long. And where does all this ’sweat pants’ talk come from? He was wearing a Hanes pocket tee, fer chrissakes. For all we know, he could have been sitting there with his pants around his ankles. LOL
(Ha. Try and get THAT image out of your mind now. :D)
As Kahless would say.

ba-dum TSH!!!
The Shat’s back. “And speaking of Shatner, Betty White just shatner pants”.
Nice to see the video rantings are not going away after all.
Shatnervision has provided me way too much entertainment regarding Shatner’s Star Trek Movie casting negotiations. At one point he told people to call Paramount! Thats so rich! The man is part Denny Crane!
Wait to we get closer to November, we are all sure to see some good nuggets of BS & strategy served up shatner style! Just Love it!
When I look at Shatner, the words “nationa treasure” come to mind … I’m not sure if I’m thinking of Canada or the United States …
#22
- I love the character of Kirk, and I’ll place my support behind the new guy (assuming he’s half good!) in his 3 films, or whatever his contribution turns out to be, but ultimately the new Kirk will always be in the Shat’s shadow. –
You’re right, because “Genius doesn’t work on an assembly line basis. You can’t simply say, Today I will be brilliant”.
- Shatner helped build Star Trek. He IS Star Trek! All hail the Caesar of the stars!! –
Hail!!
Re 37 Iowagirl,,,
I agree,, !
also,,,
Theres that certain magic Mr Shatner has ,,as he suits up and walks out as Kirk, and has that interaction with his crew.
yes Mr Shatner is a tad older now,,, much like ALOT of his fans as well
we all change, and Im sure your weight has changed over the years too, so lets just tone it down abit now please people.
Lets just keep in mind, If Mr Shatner suits up as Kirk in the next Trek,
it will be a sci fi event that will be bigger than when Star Wars came out in 1977.
Or,, ( if god forbid),,that doesnt happen,Im sure he will also kick arse as
the great Denny Crane.
:-D
Shatner and Capt Kirk are your heroes? You are kidding right?
# 39
Capt. Kirk is not your hero and you do not respect Shatner’s unique contribution to Star Trek? Sorry, my friend, you’re lost – try the knitting group next door!
We should all look that good as we approach the high side of 80. Those who are criticizing his appearance are a bunch of boobs.
#41 – Totally right! Shatner has always looked fantastic for his age! Compare him to most 76 year olds, and his appearance, energy, and mental attitude are all to be envied. In fact, I’d say that since about the 1970’s, he’s been able to pass for being a decade younger. We should all be so lucky.
He’s older now than De Kelley and Jimmy Doohan were in TUC! See what I mean?
This is what pisses me off about a new movie with a new cast, the original Trek actors can never be replaced, period.
Actually I think I’m more pissed that Phase II never went or at the least TV movies, because the original cast deserved more than 79 episodes and 6 movies they should’ve been in a lot more Trek, what a tragedy!
Looks like the Scottish guy who looked like Hiro from Heroes did a great job with his campaign. Well done!
#37 I agree I’m not against a new Kirk at all. One things for sure tho, I won’t feel goose bumps seeing Mike Vogel (or anyone else, suited up as Kirk) There are no warm feelings or emotions associated with anyone else in that role that would compare to seeing Shatner on that screen one last time as Captain Kirk. That alone is worth the price of admission.
As for the fat comments, waistline etc, nothing new since the Simpsons did that Parody, the only difference being the Simpsons was funny.
The late Jimmy Doohan said at a convention in the UK back in 92 I think “You don’t care if we’re fat and old, you just want to see us again”. I believe he appeared twice after that as Scotty again, putting in a stellar performance, and proved his point.
Fascinating that he is wearing the more woolly toupee here and not the more balding one her wears more usually nowadays
dear gladys,
thanks for the cheery note regarding the ping pong bald headed man..
it came just when i needed it, hope all is well on your end,
its hot and sticky here in Romulus today!

Shatner does not wear a hair piece, he went to Bosley Hair Replacement and got plugs of hair from the back of his head and put them up top.
My dear old Dad who looks like our dear old Shat had it done himself and now looks like a new man.
this is not an advert, by the by.
;-)
He´s the man! Hail the Captain!
#47 “got plugs”
The Shat did not get hair transplants. He has been bald since before filming TOS in the 1960’s. Back then he wore a very good toupee, but nowadays it appears to be a very good weave or “hair system”.
Hair, more or less, or none at all – I don’t care,
weight, more or less, grown in girth – I don’t care,
wardrobe, pants – I give you on it my hands
– I don’t care
because once put back
into the right unifom
all cynics will become forlorn
because Shat will put on them
a bag.
47
Nonsense I’m afraid.
Shatner was significantly bald when he was in TOS (see Joan Collin’s memoir and statements by Bob Justman in his book.) He simply did not have enough donor hair for any sort of transplant – this is evident dating from the wigs he wore for ST:TMP and then TJ Hooker which were clearly “whole head” pieces. In the 90s he moved towards a more discreet grey thinning style, seen in Boston Legal most obviously.
Fat, bald, whatever…William Shatner in an small appearance as an ‘older’, but still alive future ‘Kirk’ ( perhaps in a new position as a Starfleet ambassador / advisor / instructor now?… ) would be the best present I could get in this Christmas 2008 release, and would help to smooth the sight of a new actor in the ‘young Captain Kirk’ role immensely to TOS fans, much as Leonard Nimoy’s appearance is smoothing Zachary Quinto’s debut…although I’d still rather a ‘flashback’ transition as opposed to any more ‘time-travel’ plot shennanigins… ;)
Iowa girl just because I don’t idolize and worship a fictional character and celebrity doesn’t mean I’m any less of a Star Trek fan than you are. Get a life!
And what’s exactly is your definition of a true hero anyway? Happily the true heroes in my life are not TV actors or characters in television shows!
As I’ve said in the past many times on this site, Star Trek is much more than TOS and much more than Capt Kirk or William Shatner. If Shatner is in the next movie great, if not thats ok by me too. I plan on seeing the next movie regardless.
Mike :o
wow, was that the michellen man?
#53
MichaelJohn, I have a life – I used to be in a course called “There’s only one kind of woman …or man, for that matter. You either believe in yourself or you don’t.” It just worked out fine. Nowadays, I can allow myself to count a fictional character among my heroes and to not give up my clear point of view for the masses – and all of this without being defensive. Maybe the course is still being held somewhere near your hometown.
Someone…anyone!
Get in touch with that man for me and tell him my idea!
A show called “the Shat!”
It’ll be like “Curb Your Enthusiam” in that William Shatner will play a fictional version of himself. I said this before….but the first episode will have him see the movie “The Matrix,” in which he’ll become obsesed with the name or word “KEANUE.” He’ll say it throughout. I would like to have Leonard Nimoy play a fictional version of himself in which he constanly tell Shatner he’s acting crazy and needs to move on. Heather Locklear must be in this show as well. The first season will be about Bill finding out that not only is he not in the new Trek movie, but that one of the non-cable networks wants to remake T.J. Hooker. Naturally, Shatner is pissed and does all he can to get in either.
I can see it now. It’ll be like Curb Your Enthusiam meets the Larry Sander’s show.
If this is an idea that doesn’t sound half bad, and you can contact the right people, let me know here and now. I’m only half kidding.
Iowagirl if Capt. Kirk is your “make believe” hero and this makes you a better woman..more power to you.
I like William Shatner the actor too, but sorry I don’t worship the man or Idolize Capt Kirk. (or even Star Trek for that matter.) Theres a big difference between being a casual Trek fan and someone that is a “fanatic” and overly obssessed with all things Trek.
I’ve noticed that on many threads here on Trekmovie.com that loyal members of the “Shat Army” and the “Capt. Kirk is My Hero” club are always quite defensive, and easily get upset if anyone dare to criticise the man in any way.
Heaven forbid if a poster honestly feels that Shatner’s participation in the next ST movie is unnecessary or unimportant. People will react with such anger and contempt as if someone had just committed treason!
Just as Sean Connery was original and greatest James Bond, William Shatner will always be the orginal and best Capt Kirk too. But the Bond franchise survived and continues to grow long after Connery left, and there is no reason to think Star Trek will not survive and attract new fans with another actor playing Capt, Kirk.
As much as admire Sean Connery’s version of James Bond, I have no desire to see him playing that character again on the big screen. Yes he’s much too old and it would be unrealistic. By saying that I’m not making fun of his age, it’s just a fact. I feel the same way about Shatner now and don’t see the need for him, or any other TOS actor for that matter, to be involved in the next movie. (except maybe in cameo roles) They all made their indelible mark on Star Trek but it’s time for the torch to pass.
I really hope the next Star Trek is a big success, but I hope that the director and writers are not so concerned with giving Nimoy and Shatner one last curtain call that it hurts the film and ruins the story. This movie has to appeal to more than just the TOS crowd and the ” Bring back Shat Brigade” if it’s going to succeed.
Long Live Trek post Shatner and Nimoy!
Mike :o
And for all you Shat lovers…
Hail Ceasar Kirk!
Shatner is God!
Capt Kirk is my Hero!
Kirk IS Trek!
#57
Oh my, just a proof that you don’t understand the difference between the Bond concept and the Star Trek concept combined with a confused mix-up of your own arguments against the Kirk/Shatner brigade, spiced with a dose of polemics? That’s all?
Well, I think, you just proved my statements right…
#57 “I’ve noticed that on many threads here on Trekmovie.com that loyal members of the ‘Shat Army’ and the ‘Capt. Kirk is My Hero’ club are always quite defensive, and easily get upset if anyone dare to criticise the man in any way.”
I find the reverse to be true. I’ve noticed a small (in more ways than one!) but vocal brigade that gets bent out of shape whenever Shatner is praised. In a thread like this, what’s wrong with singing the praises of the man who’s been the “face” of Star Trek for 40 years? Nothing’s wrong with it.
And yet we have posts like # 39. You feel compelled to log on and criticize people for their fandom, yet you’re the one telling people to get a life? Hello, irony.
#58 “a dose of polemics”
I had a dose of polemics once, but I got some prescription cream and it cleared right up!!
Ouch you guys really hurt my feelings!….
Hey I’m just posting my opinions like the rest, but I guess I have to agree with everyone here that Shatner/Kirk is a hero and should only be adored and worshipped by all of Trek fandom. Sorry but this Trek fan doesn’ buy into that!
Oh and I’m also very sorry to all those that were so very hurt and offended about the “donut joke”. I understand now that any jest at the expense of the great “Shat” is completely wrong and totally uncalled for. He’s a man above reproach and only worthy of praise and hero worship. Please forgive me!
And how dare I even suggest that Shatner may be too old and past his prime to again play Capt. Kirk in the next movie, or even worse compare him to Connery/James Bond of all people! Such heresy from a Trek fan you say! What is this world coming too?
I rest my case on how sensitive Shatner/Capt Kirk worshipers are. It’s quite obvious that they don’t have a sense of humor either. Just re-read any of previous “Shatner is still not in the next movie” threads and you will see what I mean.
Mike :o (aka Sammy Sarcasm)
Oy for effing vey…
*Sigh*
What do I know? I simply write well for a seven year old…
I am going regardless of Shat’s return as Kirk or not.
IMO, Shat is not Star Trek, he’s an actor that helped form it and his character (at least right now) is dead.
If JJ’s story brings him back and it’s good for the story, wonderful, otherwise there is no vaild point.
Should he come back, I have to wonder about how he will really look on screen.
I just want a good story.
#61 – Nope, I have a teriffic sense of humor. Sorry, but lines like, “Gosh Bill lay off the donuts!” just aren’t witty. At all. Fozzy Bear could do better. Maybe you should audition for America’s Got No Talent.
I’m sorry,Cam, I was just having some fun at the expense of your typo. And I was laughing with you. And the sun got in my eyes. But I was kidding, really.
And how come we can’t crack wise about the Shat, guys? I’m not saying that he isn’t important to Trek or that he isn’t a gifted performer. I do think he’s getting big and a little “froggy” looking as he get’s older. That’s life. I am not the same youthful visage that I was 15 or 20 years ago either. But I am also not saying that he is a fat worthless jerk or that he is an *ss. Love him in Boston Legal. Fond memories of ALL the Treks he did (yeah, even V). And he’s gotten a bit corpulent and a touch puffy and we have always, as fans, jibed his persona about the “toupee or not toupee, that is the question” deal. Should he be in the next movie? I don’t know. Not up to me. I’ll see it whether he is or isn’t. I have learned to back off all the Shat supporters, though, because they seem to really get bent out of shape and vociferously take up Shatner’s cause any time someone says anything remotely un-flattering about him. And I don’t need the hassle or wish to hassle anyone else. At least not too much. Unless it’s funny. To me, that is.
#61
Maybe, you shouldn’t use all those angry faces at the end of your posts in order to prove what a jolly person you are…
We Shatner supporters have a great sense of humor, but maybe, it’s just different from your’s. How come that each time someone has no arguments left, he accuses the other one of having no sense of humor…?!
By the way, KIrk being a hero is no opinion, but a statement proven by the cultural importance of the series itself, as even Orci stated Kirk and Spock having become archetypal characters. As the “hero” IS an archetype, Kirk is a hero. QED.
I don’ worship Shatner as a person, but I respect his unique contribution to Star Trek and I think it essential that he will be a part of ST XI.
If you consider this a joke – laugh about it.
But, as I am not only sensitive but also sensible, I will rest my case on how hollow your arguments are and will touch life around me again.
See you at the cinema queuing for the return of James T. Kirk.
#66 Iowagirl
I am not jumping into the thing between you and MichaelJohn, I just want to point out his smiley is just that. I don’t see an angry face.
And I am not picking on you, but where from in Iowa? Have I asked you this before? I’ve not heard many Iowans say “cinema” for “movie” or queuing, which I assume you mean “lining up for”.
Just curious.
X, in Iowa
#65 “I don’t need the hassle or wish to hassle anyone else”
Attaboy, THX…
Remember, in life, even if you win the rat race, you’re still a rat!
Hmmmya……..words to ponder……..yeah………I think so!
You don’t “fix” something that wasn’t broken, do you think that you are God and can remake…. “reboot” such a legend??; gimmie a break mates!, no….you should continue to move on and forward with fresh new idea’s as Gene Rodenberry would want.
Star Trek should be what it always was, a continuation into the realm’s of deep space, Like with most of DS9/TNG onward after TOS time ended in “The Undiscovered Country”…and it cannot really ever be faithfully… and sucessfully remade, for these reasons and many more, Mr Abrams and Mr. Nimoy would have Star Trek a parody of it’self now!, a self fullfilling SNL skit …at the movies and also nullify TNG, VOY & even the often great DS9 will seem moronic!; thus destroying the original series lofty vision’s and high flying goals, and continue to oversaturate Star Trek to the general public at the same time with this sort of “REMAKE” claptrap story,……….. people will stay away in droves, as with the last picture and the serie’s “enterprise”.

a concerned trekgirl’s thoughts
(my opinion)
#65 “And how come we can’t crack wise about the Shat, guys?”
We can! The notion that we can’t is just a myth propagated by indiviuals who are banal instead of funny. See, the Shatner Roast on Comedy Central had me laughing throughout. Betty White’s recommendation that Shatner switch to 2% milk comes to mind. :) My only objection is to dunsels who come into Shatner threads quoting from their How To Be A Fan manuals, telling us that we’re wrong to be fans of THE star of Star Trek, and then having the audacity to issue “no sense of humor” citations when no one laughs at their unoriginal, lame jibes. You want laughs? Try being clever!
#67 Xai
Actually, Iowagirl is just a name I’ve chosen with reference to Kirk’s future birthplace. It has nothing to do with MY birthplace which is in fact a small town in Germany. So, the explanation for the strange words I use to use is an unforgivable mixture of being German and having been taught mostly BE.
#71 Iowagirl
Explains it all. Thanks for the clarifcation.
#70-You want laughs? Try being clever!
OK then. When Shatner goes outside in his red uni from The Undiscovered Country, all the kids in the neighborhood yell “Hey Kool-aid!”
Better, THX, better. ;)
Angry faces? What in the world are you talking about? It’s just a smiley face that I have been putting on the end of every post I’ve written, for the last eight months or so. Hmmm I guess sensitive ‘Shat fans’ may be easily upset and disturbed by them. Sorry about that.
But some final thoughts for all you devoted
“Kirk/Shatner Hero Worshipers” If I remember correctly William Shatner himself allowed his beloved character to be killed off a few Trek movies ago. No one put a gun to his head and forced him to do that, and It was his decision to agree to that script. (and to take the millions)
As far as I’m concerned it no longer makes any sense for Shatner to be in the next movie, except in a cameo appearance or some voiceover work. But if the writers can somehow come up with a meaninful and plausible way to bring back Shatner’s Kirk one last time, I’m all for it.
But either way I could really care less. I just hope the writers of the next film don’t come up with some lame reason to have Shatner in the movie, just to pacify the “bring back Shat crowd” and in the process ruin the movie.
This film needs to appeal to more than just the TOS crowd if it is to have any hope of relaunching the Trek franchise and bringing in a new generation of fans.
Well I can’t leave this thread without one last photon burst directed toward Iowagirl and Shatner fan…
In my book a hero is a “real human being” that has done something wonderful and selfless for his friends, his family, his community, his country or for humanity in general. Real “heroes” ARE NOT ficitional characters from movies or TV and books, or wildly overpayed actors, musicians, athletes and most celebrities in general.
Sorry if you don’t agree, but I take offensive at those people in this site that say fictional characters like Capt Kirk or Spock or Capt Sisko etc are their real heroes. These people make a mockery of genuine heroes and in doing so cheapen the very definition of the word.
In a world full of celebrity worship and idoltry, it’s sad to me that so many people consider actors, celebrities and fictional characters real heroes in their lives.
Nuf said!

Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary:
Main Entry: he•ro
Pronunciation: ‘hir-(”)O
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural heroe
Etymology: Latin heros, from Greek hErOs
1 a : a mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability b : an illustrious warrior c : a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities d : one that shows great courage
2 a : the principal male character in a literary or dramatic work b : the central figure in an event, period, or movement
This is my final contribution regarding “heroes”. I think it is self-explanatory. The rest of your post is a battology of what you said before and requires no answer.
Iowagirl (insert happy, hopeful face)
You guys are my heroes.
(runs and hides)
“You guys are my heroes”
Well………here comes LUNCH!!! UUrrpppppp…………..
I see that we are now posting dictionary defintions to make our points…
Hmmm…Are you trying to tell me the word hero has more than one meaning in the dictionary? Really? Like I didn’t know that. Duh!
But you already know we were only talking about personal heros in our lives, not every possible definition and use of the noun.
But’s that’s ok, you can continue to insist that Capt Kirk is a “real hero” in your life (sad) and I will continue to insist that your hero is nothing more than a fictional, make believe, TV/movie character that is unworthy to be considered a real hero, in any meaningful and personal sense of the word.
By the way I do like William Shatner as an actor and think he’s done some great work over the years.I also like the fictional character of Capt. Kirk in TOS. He’s handsome, brave, resourceful, a lady’s man and a great leader for sure. But sorry to say, the real person Shatner and his fictional alter ego Kirk don’t measure up to what I believe is a real hero, not even close.
But I can agree that Capt Kirk is a “science fiction hero”- just like Luke Skywalker, Buc Rogers, maybe even Barf from Spaceballs!
Mike :o
Harry-Well………here comes LUNCH!!! UUrrpppppp…………..
Hey man, don’t blame me. I thought you have been looking a might bit peekid as of late.
Sorry about lunch, though. Next ones on me, pal. Err…..I mean I’ll buy.
Actually, there’s nothing “sad” about different opinions and different concepts. Confirming that there is enough space in this universe for all kinds of concepts is called “tolerance”; one of the most heroic concepts of all. Applying this concept is not sad and it does include neither making jokes about other concepts nor asking other people whether they’re “kidding” when talking about their concepts. It is about respecting things you do not understand; accepting them or even agreeing to them is not necessary.
The time is not ripe yet for tolerance as you will “continue to insist” on your concept. My suggestion would be a ceasefire for the time being, as
a) I am able to apply the tolerance concept
b) this might be getting tiresome for others
c) we will miss the premiere of ST XI if we continue this infinite loop…
