It's been firmly established that's what a ship is supposed to look like at warp...why should TOS be any different.

#67 Remember 70+ years passed between TOS and TNG. Warp and phaser technology must have advanced. Even the warp effect shown in ST:TMP could be agrued as a result of the new (ergo more advanced) engines. So logically (ha!), there should be a distinction between the visual and sound effects associated with TOS and those of the later era

I would have agreed with you on the warp with the times, if it weren't for the fact that they used the "Stretch/Flash" warp effect in "Enterprise," which was supposed to take place about 100 years BEFORE TOS.

Another minimal effort from CBS-D.

I'm kinda sorry now that I praised Galileo Seven. I should have known they'd lead off with the one episode wherein they make a real effort only to follow it with one episode after another wherein they give the least possible.

#67 The whole point is that special effects are going to relfect the era in which they are made. An effect in the 60's is going to look like it was made in the 60's. An effect in the 90's... etc. You don't have to necessarily completely change the sound of an effect, but give it a tweak. You can certainly digitally recreate the phaser sound effect from TOS. However, the "look" should be updated. The effects should more closely match b/c Star Trek is a franchise. And also, LOGICALLY, the Star Trek universe should have some constants.

Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me, but I would swear that I can see some moving servos in the closeup shot of Kirby's hand.
