People defending the remastering work have never done 3D animation, I can tell. The CGI is no better and is frequently worse, than what you see in a typical video game.

Eventually some fan that has the desire to do it, will sit down, and just fix all the special effects. Personally, I prefer the original.

When motion recognition is a lot better and human models are better, I'd like to see all the video replaced entirely by CGI synched to the audio. Seeing it entirely updated like that would be interesting, if only for a curiosity.

81: OMG I laughed so hard "It's a fake!" LOL!
ITPM was one of DS9s best from the 6th season. Worth looking at for those who haven't caught it. It debuted the "Insurrection" dress whites on TV.
I disagree, however, on the nacelle caps. I dig 'em. Hated the early version that looked like the Smithsonian job, but since we got the Xmas lights in there I've been happy. Maybe just a touch more of opacity in the translucence of the outer material, but that's a quibble.
As 84 says, they don't exist in *any* case, so it's a question of artistic license versus fidelity to the original. Nacelle caps are currently hitting a good balance IMHO.
Still, "It's a faaaaaaaake!" LOL! Anyone who has season 6 laying around owes it to themselves to pop in that disk. Priceless!

"Perhaps “The Ultimate Computer” will redeem the remasterers… but I’m not holding my breath. I lay 10 to 1 they diasappoint me just like the did on “The Doomsday Machine.”

I can tell you now that you're probably going to be dissappointed because it seems to me that you are unsatisfiable. I think they did the best work they could do on these and you say they look like crap. You are UNSATISFIABLE. I know your type you will not be happy no matter what they do. So just do yourself a favor and don't watch anymore. We don't want to hear any more of this.

81. one other thing. About the nacelle caps looking fake. They are fake. Nacelle caps don't exist. They can't look real because they never were real. JUst what would you have them look like. because Nacelle caps are not real. ANd no I do not remember the Romulan senator from "in the pale moonlight?"

#81: "Yup, 80, 62, 47 et al… You got it. I look at the remastered Enterprise and the word “cartoon” pops in my mind, considering the lighting, contrast and those blasted nacelle caps that just look so FAKE it makes me want to scream. Remember the Romulan senator from “In The Pale Moonlight”? “IT’S A FAKE!”

I've seen the animated series of star trek You want to talk Cartoon enterprise just look at that. I look at the CG enterprise. That is far from cartoon. Look at the Animated series and compare the two then comment on what looks cartoonish.

I'm hoping against hope tha the CBSD team is working especially hard on "The Ultimate Computer" and "The Enterprise Incident" - but we won't see those until early next year.

Why oh why oh why can these guys do such a great job on mattes like in "Amok Time", "Wink of an Eye", and yes, this episode, and yet be so completely unable to give us an Enterprise at least of the quality of the CGI Defiant in "In a Mirror, Darkly"????? Or even STARSHIP EXETER?

A true shame... the original Constitution Class starships are the best looking ships ever in any incarnation of Star Trek... and simply put, the remastered versions don't do them justice.

Perhaps "The Ultimate Computer" will redeem the remasterers... but I'm not holding my breath. I lay 10 to 1 they diasappoint me just like the did on "The Doomsday Machine."

To #25, and many others: Sure, sometimes in the still shot comparisons, the original models look more convincing/realistic. But go watch your TOS dvds again. I've been watching them a lot recently. Nothing will truly make you appreciate the job the TOS remastered team has been doing then watching the OLD fx in action. Not only is the ship movement (and other fx movement) often horribly awkard (usually in the 1st season and half of the second), but they're horribly scratched. I mean horribly. This shot, http://trekmovie.com/wp-content/uploads/daggermind/old_tosr011_2.jpg, in particular usually looks horrible. Often, the Enterprise is also devoid of color! I was initially against this project, and I agree with you sometimes that in still shot comparisons, the original look better. BUT, the remastered fx shots are not only MUCH MUCH MUCH cleaner, but are a lot smoother. ESPECIALLY with the ship movement. Is the CGI work perfect? No. Could they do better? Possibly with more time and budget. But still, vast improvement over the original in almost every case. So again I say, go pop in your TOS dvds, then come back and comment here.

> 76. LordEdzo - October 16, 2007
> Beautiful CGI renderings of the Enterprise, as usual.
> However, in one of the “orbital” CGIs, the saucer section’s
> ventral array appears to be unlit.

This seemed like a MAJOR glitch to me. Looked like they just didn't render that bottom dome on the saucer. You can even see it in the pic on this page:

I personally believe that the Tilt/bank effect with the U-turn was necesary because really the only ship I've seen do a 180 Degree rotation was Enterprise-D. It was probably specially designed to do that since I don't recall seeing any ships since then do it. Not even Voyager.

As for the comment about the rings around the planet not being colorful enough. Think of it this way. The planet was supposed to be a prison. They probably made it that way for the same reason why it is always raining at a funeral or dark and stormy around an evil fortress. It sets the mood. I don't think having a colorful planet for a prison would have set the right tone.
