Olympus 1979, you are so right! I totally agree with you! (in #173) I couldn’t have said it better. Chris Pine will not be playing CAPTAIN Kirk, but more probably CADET Kirk, or ENSIGN Kirk… For all we know, he could’ve been a nerd back in the days. Look at the character of Picard, when he was young, he was reckless, undisciplined, and charismatic, and yet he turned into a boring balding man playing flute..! ;-)

So why couldn’t McCoy be a bit on the wild side as a young man? In the movie, he probably was recently divorced, and a civilian doctor willingly joining Starfleet has to be a bit danger-driven ;-) He was self-proclaimed an “old country doctor” in TOS, but hasn’t always been old! What does a “young country doctor” look like? Maybe it looks just like Karl Urban :-P

As for the other choices, I cannot say, don’t know enough of their work. Maybe it’s better that way, I don’t see them typecasted ;-)

I always like to see what the one, true Harry has to say. He is our island of irreverence in a sea of taped-glasses, pocket-protectored dweebs. Just when things are going smoothly, Harry tosses his “sabo” of humor into the workings to remind the die-hards to step back and breath a little.

And for the posters out there who like to steal other people’s names, come on. Let’s try for some originality. There is no way to match our wit, knowledge, and eloquence with people like yourselves who are cursed with limited brain pans.

They’re not trying to “fix” TOS. They just want to breathe some new life into the original concept, and get back to the original, iconic characters that people know and love.

Besides, anyone out there who thinks they’re going to make a Trek movie set in the 25th century with entirely new characters and an entirely new ship is SERIOUSLY kidding themselves. TNG is dead, and no way in hell would they throw money away on a DS9, VOY or ENT movie.

#177 Well I look on this as a true disaster… the death nail of Star Trek. The whole reboot on something (TOS) that wasn’t broken to begin with just isn’t the way to go. Yeah Trek became broke through B&B, but rather than applying a bandage they are playing Victor Frankenstein with TOS… and we all know what became of him when playing God (tis the season). ;)
