I’m hoping Abrams will decide to use the ENT/TNG/DS9/VGR rank system in “Star Trek.” Thus, Capt. Pike would have four stripes on his sleeve instead of the strange “one stripe for all officers” system that was used in “The Cage.”

At this point in the franchise, it would be stupid to return to the “watered down” rank system used in TOS. If Paramount is trying to jump-start a series of TOS movies, then it should use the same rank system it’s been using since TNG in 1987 (to which the prequel ENT also adhered).

Someone at Paramount should go whisper this in Abrams’ (and the costume designer’s) ear.

What purpose would the Kobiyashi Maru test serve? We know it happened (a neat tidbit in TWOK) – would there be any sense to showing the details. You could have just as much richness by mentioning it again – as Kirk is being considered, one of the Admirals asks, “Kirk…..wasn’t he the cadet that cheated on the KB test?”.

Little continuity nuggets are neat. Let’s not hammer them to death, when I am sure it is not in service of the story.

Any of those A-listers could be Pike. Wouldn’t it be better to have someone who projects personality, charm, and vigor, than someone who merely bears a resemblance to Jeff Hunter?

(Yes, I vote for Nicole Kidman as Pike!)

Affleck is a horrible actor, imo, but was surprisingly decent in Hollywoodland. I will go to this movie no matter what, but as someone said, it would almost be a reason not to go. They can do better than Affleck. Frankly, I believe that having Affleck in this movie will do to it what Robin Curtis did to ST:III

Agreed, Clooney would make an excellent Pike.

However, as much as I love Clooney, his career needs Trek like Trek needs another dose of Berman and Braga. ;-)

Pike becomes disfigured during a training mission while instructing at the Academy after he was Captain of the Enterprise. Of course if this Trek becomes “re-invented” under Abrams, this little tidbit of “known” Trek information could just go by the wayside.
