The only “polemicizers” here are you and the other Shatner-holics; one has to care a great deal more than most of the rest of us do in order to deliver polemics.

You’re right that I’m not debating you – you offer nothing for debate other than insistence that you should have your way. You’ll either get what you want, or not. Either way, you don’t rise to the level of an interesting adversary in debate.

You should have read on and would have noticed that I addressed every single point of 541 – but obviously I’ve expected too much of you.

Quoting and answering regardless of context the way you do it quite skilfully in your post is always the favored instrument of those who do not want to debate but to polemize.

That’s a marvelous lot of gibberish in the context of your attempt to reply to #541’s point – which was that it’s far more important that the filmmakers create a good film with broad appeal than that they try to humor a relatively small group of people who are making demands based upon a rather obsessive sense of entitlement.

Your quibbling and playing with the paraphrased dialogue rather than trying to directly address the real point being made was a waste of everyone’s time.

I think the posting to backhand slap Roberto Orci with your reposnse to his “distress” concern should merit an apology to him.

You and those that repeatedly post about bringing Shatner back have been venturing into the territory of being condescending to someone who is actually working (indeed, writing!) the movie. That also merits an apology.

I just don’t believe how badly some folks here speak to and address each other. Quite surprising for fans of a universe that demonstrated tolerance and appreciation of differences.

I’ll try to make it more transparent for you.

1.
The quote itself was cited in STII and opposed to the reverse quote in STIII, after Kirk had saved Spock’s life. IMO, one of the most poignant and candid moments in all ST films. As the reverse quote is the synthesis at the end of the film marking a milestone regarding the relationship between Kirk and Spock as well as Spock’s comprehension of his own life, it is also the quote consistent with canon.

2.
None of us is in the position to give guarantees to Mr Orci, least of all on behalf of others. To start the sentence in question with this phrase makes this phrase a premise. As this premise is obviously wrong, the line of argument must be wrong, too.

3.
The modified quote in 541 implies that the group of people “who want a great film before anything else” and “those who want to use this film who selfishly BBK” are

a) proven to be a majority with regard to the first group
b) proven to be a minority with regard to the latter
c) proven to be mutually exclusive/proven to be not supportive of the film itself (again, with regard to the latter).

As nothing of the above has been proven and cannot be proven, those hints must be considered mere polemics.

Further @541, I think you owe Mr. Orci and the production team an apology for accusing them of not being able to create a film which will embrace good storytelling AND the return of WS as Kirk. A substitutional apology will not outweigh a hidden accusation of the very same addressee in your own post.

I wish it could have been both of them.
