I am not an actor, but I would be willing to do anything to be in a movie. A lot of people have become actors by accident and without training. I know I can be one of them. If given the chance, I could be the next big star. You just don’t know it yet. If it helps, I am a HUGE “Star Trek” fan.

Damn, I’m kind of upset that I missed this little opportunity. I am a 5′6″, 100 lbs, extremely pale, blue-eyed, large-headed, long-nosed 21 year old man with hip-length dark brown hair, rigid posture, thin lips, high-and-even forehead, and ridiculously long fingers.

It would have been fun.

It sounds like a roll call for Vulcans, but I bet its actually more of a roll call for Romulans! They just didnt want to give the plot away.

Also with all those various looks, perfections and imperfections being mentioned it sounds like either Starship crews are going to be alot more diverse AND/OR the will be shots in which many different species will have to appear at the same time. So I’m thinking Starfleet Academy, Federation Council, Prison or Starbases.

Secondly, I’ve always been bothered that Trek hasn’t made use of real people who have very different facial features and/or “deformities”. Who is not bored with aliens that look exactly the same as each other in proportion and symetrical look except for a plastic forehead? taking advantage of people with close or far spaced eyes and enhancing it with makeup is the right way to go to get something that feels other-worldly.

While I understand your point, at the same time, the entertainment BUSINESS is exactly that–and there are certain leanings of appearance which the public–right or wrong–continue to accept and desire, so i’m wondering if the casting will inspire undesireable reactions–say, for example, the dwarf performer “Beetlejuice” (with his known facial problems) landed a part. Pesonally, i’d have no issue with that, but we live in a remarkably vain and cruel society–a society worshipping people like Spears and Hilton.

In “Plato’s Stepchildren.,” Kirk tells Alexander “Where I come from, size shape or color makes no difference.”

…and though Kirk’s line was one of THE manifestos/hallmarks of TOS, we do not live in a world like the one Kirk knows. I wonder if this has the potential to backfire on J.J. and Company.

Shades of deja vu. In 1979 I was in college and my trek club put out the word of the casting for the rec deck scene for ST:TMP. Well… I had a track meet during that time and couldn’t make it as I didn’t want to let down my team.

And now I’m a working guy and can’t leave northern ca for the trip south. Besides, if in the small chance I did get cast, I surely couldn’t take the time away from work.
