As CBS owned the rights to STARTREK.COM, STAR TREK and related marks at the time of the layoffs, and still does, I find it most confusing the central point of Trek commercialism would be neglected for so long. When hundreds of Trek fans have questions concerning DVDs, models, replicas, clothing and other Trek related merchandise, the only recourse we have is to ask one another. As I would guess CBS is in the business to make money, I'm amazed they have ignored the fans for so long. Even the purported relaunch of STARTREK.COM is practically bereft of information. As CBS owned the rights to STARTREK.COM, STAR TREK and related marks at the time of the layoffs, and still does, I find it most confusing the central point of Trek commercialism would be neglected for so long. It's certainly changed over the years, but I still find it to be one of the best resources of Star Trek on the web. This mostly comes from the inventive pieces created by those who worked on the website itself. From the video interviews and mini-documentaries, I've sometimes found my download cap to be serverly strained at times. Whatever flaws people might have with the site, it has tread the line between the constraints of being an official site governed by the studio and the inner fan that lurks in each of its staff members. Since the loss of the Communicator, it's been the one place to really get a good inside view of the franchise and we owe it to those who have worked on the site, not just now, but in the past, for the great work and dedication they've shown. I just hope that the experience of the staff is recognised by those taking on control of the site from now on and perhaps they'll be returned to providing us with an even better site.
