#98- Spot on. Sirtis is first class all the way. I was never a big fan of her's early on. She did not appear sexy or engaging on any level to my way of thinking. But wholy moly - when I saw her in Person back in 92 - what a charming, sexy, smart and funny lady. For some reason, her character, especially early on, was not well written and it wasn't until later seasons that her charm would shine through.

#2, She does two nude scenes in 1983's "The Wicked Lady". One is a brief full frontal in an upstairs room in a pub. The other is topless during a whip fight with Faye Dunaway.

Years ago I used to attend Star Trek Conventions. Marina and George were two of the nicest people you could hope to meet. Saw them two or three times each over the years and they never failed to be kind and gracious. Being an avid and detail oriented costumer, I was on cloud nine when, in one case, Marina came across a crowded room to compliment my Romulan costume, and at another con when George made a point to say some kind things about my Wrath of Khan style Starfleet costume.

I haven't been to a con in at least 12 years, but I had attended a number of them from 1977 to that point. It was my good fortune to at least see, if not meet, many of the actors in Star Trek and other Sci-Fi. In nearly every case they were polite and kind to the fans. But no one I ever saw was nicer than Marina or George.

DS9 got super sexy in that episode where Dax macked on her ex-wife from a previous host. That was hot.

Marina Sirtis, not so hot. She's OK, but never did it for me. And how come Troi could never sense anything when it was really important? There was always some kind of radiation or other kind of interference when her services were really needed. She never earned her paycheck...

#39--I watch an episode from my TOS box sets every now and then, but it doesn't quench my thirst so much to watch an episode I've seen literally a hundred times!
I have been waiting for about 20 years for more TOS-era Star Trek, ever since I was first disappointed by TNG. The new film is not out to "replace" TOS, but rather to expand it. I have said many times that I would love to see another TOS-era series, and this potential starting point for a series of films is the closest thing I have come close to getting as a fan. I first started watching TOS reruns in the 70's, and it had me at "hello". Your opinion is noted, but if it can be done with other timeless icons of Western culture like Superman, Bond, etc.--and be successful--why not Star Trek? I don't think your comparisons to "Lucy" and such are valid. That was mindless comedy. Even the most obvious comedic approach to Star Trek (STIV) required more thinking than that. Will they write a great story? Who knows? Will the actors deliver even half of the magic that Nimoy/Shatner/Kelley/Doohan/Nichols/Takei/Koenig did? I have no idea. But to dismiss it as something unworthy at this point just because the props cannot be found at Dollar General is ridiculous. I feel the "not your daddy's Star Trek" comment to be far overblown and even misinterpreted altogether. I want Star Trek not just to survive, but to evolve. My kids laugh at the aliens, the poor miniature models, the phaser fire, the cardboard props, etc. I had to show them TWOK before they would even get past that. They are the ones who will have to want to see this movie, that is, if I am to be able to continue enjoying "new-old" Star Trek for years to come. Otherwise, I am just another old fart like the guy who thinks that Star Trek has to be just a classic show from the 60's. Give me a young Jim Kirk fistfighting and fornicating across the galaxy in some adventures we have yet to see!

39. star trackie - December 26, 2007
Why must it evolve?

#41 Sean anwered your question pretty well, I thought: "The benefit for a fan is obvious - new stories, new adventures, new experiences featuring the characters you love."

It's fun and exciting to keep the ST universe alive with new projects! If new stories can be made and it pleases the fans, and makes money, why not keep doing it?

Except for the part about being happy about the new movie, I agree...you hit the nail on the head with your comments.

I always felt Marina's character to be...somewhat useless? How did she get to be a full commander? She outranks Data? Pathetic. Oh well, she's smart how she saved her job, because I certainly would have canned her! Takei...HE'S a bit of an odd one, isn't he?
