There’s nothing I saw in the trailer to indicate that the ship was not being assembled in space. I just assumed it was happening in an air-tight orbital hanger, which could be free of gravity but would not require a space suit.

I also think that Anthony Vitale has a very cool Christopher Pike look to him. I have to confess though that at first view I thought that Bruce Campbell had scored yet another cameo.

Hey, I am THX1138- Rodenberry didn’t even write the Star Trek Encyclopedia. He did, however, write the Star Trek Bible foe writers of the original series, whicj, for the 100th time, says,”Sections of the ship were built in what is still called the San Francisco Navy Yards, and were assembled in space. The ship was not designed to operate in a planet’s atmosphere, and never lands on the surface of a planet.” You can read this in a book written by Gene Rodenberry and Stephen Whitfield published in 1968 called “The Making of Star Trek.”

AV: Do you recall Kirk’s line to Picard in ST-VII (in the Nexus), “…This is my uncle’s barn in Idaho!” Well, if JJ offers you some other role in the shoot as well, why couldn’t you portray Kirk’s UNCLE in Idaho? (That wouldn’t be a stretch, though, considering it’s stated that you hail from that state, anyway.) And references to your resembline Jeffrey Hunter aren’t too far off the mark, either. From one actor to another, AV, “Break a leg!” (I only wish I lived closer to L.A.—I would have auditioned for a role as well. I did send in the resume/headshot, but with no reply. But then, not everyone makes it into Starfleet, do they?)
