I was very impressed with both STAR TREK MEMORIES, and STAR TREK MOVIE MEMORIES, as well as GET A LIFE. they had a very comprehensive view of there topics. they didn't hide the bad. I was impressed that Shanter let the other actors speak there mind on how they didn't like him, and then put it in the book. I hope this one is just as good.

#64--By the way, as a combat veteran Marine myself, I wish you well on your upcoming deployment. Return safely and confident that you have done your duty to the best of your ability. I am proud of you and your work.

I never really watched TOS, I got in at TNG so I don't hold the original to the same standard. Personally it just looks so 60's that I can't identify with it. Some stories were great but the feel just never felt like the future to me. I am glad that they are updating it using modern techniques. For canon I think that it would be as simple as stating that it always looked like this or similar because you need to give them some leaway for artistic license. I know canon is important but I would think there are different levels with what is seen between characters and what is said holding more importance than any particular look or style that was used in the film. I don't think that the walls need to be this way or one way what is more important are the moments between the characters. For people in general I think that if the movie is good and gripping then it won't matter if William is in it. If he was it would be more something for a longterm fan and wouldn't resonate with most especially the younger crowd and if it doesn't fit with the story it shouldn't go in. They need to stay true to the vision but spin it in a way that can be relevant to us today.

You can never please everyone in a fanbase and to try to do so only as far as your vision of the film will allow because they are not telling the story you are.

#62: Thanks Vulcanista! I will certainly do my best to stay safe while overseas.

#63: Granted, people have for years voiced and aimed their dissent at Shatner... or Berman, Braga or Crawley, for that matter, or any other you --fill in the blank-- subject. But it seems to me that phasers are, all too often, set on kill on the internet.

Gee, no one has been criticizing him for his TV commercial endeavors (I think they're a hoot). Although I wouldn't call him bad recording artist... his relatively recent "Has Been" was actually pretty good--for what it is. And you are probably right, I am sure Bill can most assuredly defend himself. But I digress.

I think it is really VERY easy to be a snot online because no one knows your real identity (in most cases). Without a face for us to associate with the author it is so easy to let loose a barrage of disparaging remarks and not worry about suffering any consequences (except maybe getting banned from the list, which I assume Anthony has had to do on occasion).

I guess what I am trying to say is that I have no problem with folks saying what they feel, but why not use some tact and exercise good manners? Some of the pointed remarks just seem too poisonous and radioactive.

Is it too much to ask that people voice their opinions in a respectful fashion?

#28--He is aged. It is only logical that his voice reflects that.

#50--Doug, what is it about the internet that makes you assume that people will only voice their opinions in anonymity?
The truth is, doing things that people often make fun of has made Bill alot of money over the years, and keeping his face in front of people (whether it was self-depricating or not) has actually helped to keep him relevant even today. Those SNL parodies helped him become just as recognizable to people who have never seen Star Trek, TJ Hooker, or Boston Legal as to those who cannot get enough. You can say that he wears a bad toupee, is a jerk to fans and co-workers, a mediocre actor, a horrible director, an even worse recording artist, an egomaniac, a ham, a soulless sellout, a self-centered ass, or whatever else has been said, but you cannot say that he is unintelligent and be so sure of yourself (whether you like him as a person or not). He knows that even bad publicity is publicity. I doubt that anyone here could hurt Bill's feelings.

#50: What is it about the internet that makes people feel so safe that they can say anything they please, whether it be the nastiest, rudest things that they would never ever say in person?

Doug, my friend, that would be the safety of anonymity and simply a lack of good manners. I try (not always succeeding, tho) to conduct myself here and elsewhere on the web in such a fashion that if I were to meet an online acquaintance in "real" life, say, from Trekmovie.com, I would be *proud* to say, "Hey there! I'm The Vulcanista."

And for Vulcan's sake, stay safe when you're finally deployed! And please nail Osama's ass to the wall and take a pic for me when you find and kill him! :-)

Peace. Live long and prosper.

#56
Good one thar!
But what do ya expect froma good old navy man!
Hey- I also have me a brother who just retired as a Commander... and me pappy was briefly a sailor in '45...

Time for some classic sailor poetry then!

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
Grant no other sailor take
My shoes and socks before I wake.

or, if ya prefer

Oh Lord above, send down a dove, with beak as sharp as razors
To cut the throats of them thee blokes what sells bad beer to sailors

And when back to boat, behind me do, strike up the tide to fury hieghts
To take all those who mock and poke against me darling Enterprize

arrrr... no bullShatner thar...
