I must admit that I prefer the simplicity of this site...you think of something and you post it.....no hoops to jump through!

Hey Harry!

Well, I did that mainly to snag "Vulcanista" as a user name. Mine, mine, mine! I probably won't be posting there very often, will just be lurking.

There's not a lot to see right now. When I was there earlier today, the message boards were shut down. 'Bout all I did was futz around with my sig and profile.

Overall, it's real purty and slick, tho, and there's room for all kinds of Trek fora in the world. But them fancy-shmancy Hollywood boys ain't got nothin' on Anthony and trekmovie.com.

Peace. Live long and prosper.

Zoe Saldana said; "I’m not a feminist. Women are becoming filmmakers, directors, and writers, and writing things..."

Well, women wouldn't get to be all those things without political action by women, right? Oh, those women are called feminists.

Buy a clue honey.

#84--While I agree with your thoughts on adventures/ themes for future Star Trek movies, I have to disagree with you on the whole "ensemble" thing. The magic of Kirk/Spock/McCoy was something TNG failed to measure up to, and that's a big reason why I never jumped on board. Sure, there were some good episodes and worthy stories, but the characters were never as good to me. The closest the spinoffs ever came to matching the "character magic" was DS9, and even then it wasn't all that close. There is an established dynamic in TOS, and the new film should not stray from that. That does not mean that Uhura cannot be depicted as having a bit more to say (just because her lines were limited in the 60's doesn't mean she never had anything to say), but the focal point should remain with the TOS "bread and butter" of the "big 3"...

#95--Nichelle was the epitomy of beauty----in her face, body, voice, and soul. I think back to "Bread and Circuses", where she (Uhura) was the only one of the officers who understood what the religion meant to the planet's population. Her voice, even if only saying, "Hailing frequencies open, Sir", was soothing, gentle, and smooth. She could sing, too. I loved her acting in "Mirror, Mirror", and "Space Seed" (although it was subtle, her defiant reaction to Khan's henchman always got me). Zoe, like the rest of them, has her work cut out trying to fill those Star Fleet issued boots and that yummy miniskirt...

I fell in love with Uhura when I was a little girl and saw my first Star Trek episode at age 8. I am a Black woman and it was inspiring to see Nichelle Nichols play a character like Uhura. I wanted to be just like her and I dressed like her for Halloween at age 10 complete with a toy phaser! I have always been intersted in space and science thanks to Star Trek. I ended up majoring in math and science and I now work with computers as an adult. I think Zoe Saldana will do an excellent job as the new Uhura. She seems very down-to-earth and I think she will give viewers a new take on the character.

re:Harry Sphericals

"You’re criticizing something endemic to TOS, a series you purport to be the “end all and be all” and never to be repeated…"

One thing that burns me is that, although the secondary characters (except Chekov) had some moments in the series that were great, over the years their perceived importance has grown way beyond what was shown. Uhura had little to do in most of the series, and that was enough.

And all this "giving them first names" after-the-fact really grates at me. They weren't called by their first names for three years.

Star Trek was not an "ensemble show" nor should it be. Even with new fake actors they should stay true to the formula of the "big three."
