Star Trek…4th 3rd 2nd Most Anticipated Movie?
February 8, 2008
by Anthony Pascale , Filed under: Star Trek (2009 film) , trackback
MSNBC has one of those ‘Most Anticipated Movies of 2008‘ articles…and it doesn’t even mention JJ Abrams Star Trek. The article features what MSNBC consider their top 5, but there is a poll listing 22 films and Star Trek is currently ranking 4th (in your face MSNBC). Trek trails Indy 4, Dark Knight and the new Harry Potter, but is ahead of Iron Man and the new James Bond, Get Smart, and X-Files movies. It would take a few thousand votes to get it to number one, but get voting and maybe Kirk and Spock can knock the boy wizard out of 3rd place. [UPDATE3: By Friday night Trek was in 3rd place, by Saturday it was 2nd and on Sunday number one!]

Trek is exactly where it should be.
People want to see Potter more than Spock?? What, are they on glue? :)
Looking forward to The Truth Out There.
Hellboy?!? WTF??!! Burn after Reading and Benjamin Button??!!
Oh yeah, we’re talking about MSNBC. Seems they have a track record of not being trendy.
It’s OK, steven. You just got excited. Happens to all of us.
“MSNBC…doesn’t even mention JJ Abrams Star Trek.”
Now the media are giving Star Trek the “Ron Paul treatment”…?
On review:
steven didn’t have to hide. There was nothing to be ashamed of.
How on earth can Burn After Reading and Benjamin Button be ‘anticipated’ when NOBODY’S heard of them!
I done my duty – where’s my “I voted” sticker?
Harry Potter is so done to death
one wonders if there’s any business ties between MSNBC and any of these films that have maybe slipped someone’s mind in the interest of full disclosure…
Don’t think the list would be a good barometer of how the film registers with the general film going public if TREK fans “stuffed the box”, so to speak.
Actually, 4th place is pretty good for a pretty much dead franchise. It does show, however, that TREK is NOT in the big leagues of super franchises. It never really was.
Well Star Trek needs to proof itself again to the general public.
ahead of Bond 22 and Iron Man? Fourth place aint that bad
I can’t imagine why people would be excited about another Batman movie. I suppose Heath Ledger’s death adds an aura. But for me, that’s just another gloomy aspect to a grimy looking picture. ‘Dark’ about says it all. I barely remember ‘Batman Returns’ or whatever the first one was called.
we dont need to dis other movies to love Trek…I am looking forward to the Bond, Potter, iron man, Indy, get smart, etc. But of course for me Star Trek is number one
Robin Alexander…I am sure the Bond movie would be higher on the poll if people actually knew what it was called. “Quantum of Solace” was only recently announced as the title.
The Star Trek movies all debutted at #1 at the box office until the sixth one as I recall. Star Trek 3 even beat Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom for opening $ figures.
I agree that 4th is not bad. Of course, I did my part & voted Star Trek #1!
No need to dis….. Just have the other movies put in there place ;-)
Have zero interest in Batman, regardless of the Ledger thing. Indy IV is number one for me, followed by The X-Files, Star Trek, and James Bond. I am happy to get to see all of them, though, but 19 years waiting for another Indiana Jones……I can wait no more!
Point taken, Anthony. But Benjamin Button and Burn after Reading? I’m not dissing the movies, I’m saying that for a couple of movies I have heard little to nothing about (and I pay quite a bit of attention to upcoming releases) to place so high sort of seems suspicious. Or curious.
Something just don’t add up.
#15
The title of the new bond movie was front page news in my country and almost every (movie) news site I have seen. But i do believe it had effect on the poll.
Glad Trek is getting some attention.
I voted just now, considering the fact the the general public is voting in the poll, there is a majority that couldn’t care less about Star Trek new or old because it’s just not something they dig, so I say to you the Trek fan , when this movie makes it’s debut , Go see it opening weekend and the weekend after wards. Have it break all the records of Star Wars and Harry Potter and Spider Man Etc. All of you who say you’d like another TV show, take a weekend and go see a Star Trek movie this Christmas weekend and show CBS/Paramount that people still care about the little ship that could, I think if we show enough interest we just might be given another opportunity to sit down in front of our sets on a weekly basis and get treated to another new series of some variety . I think that most of us would enjoy having something new to watch each week.
Not bad for a movie that has had no (paid) advertising yet.
Considering that Star Trek is not mainstream, 4th place is very, very, very good! The goal of the new Trek crew is to bring Kirk and Spock mainstream again. There is no rule telling that Star Trek must be a nerdy, geeky, niche show. Time to appeal the masses again.
Other than Potter (no interest) I agree with the public ranking, however Star Trek is my #1 for 2008. #2 would be Indy, #3 The Dark Knight, #4 Ironman, and #5 Bond.
If there were a #6 it would be Get Smart. The previews for it crack me up. Carell is perfect for that role, and Anne Hathaway is incredibly foxy, as was Barbara Feldon as the original 99.
Frankly I’m surprised its that high. I’ve seen similar lists at other sites and it does not even get mentioned.
Some visibility is good but better to be a bit down the list where expectations are not as demanding.
The adventure continues….
OK, I voted on my laptop. Now, when I get home, I’ll spam it from several different PC’s in the house. ;-)
Trek is #1 for me.
Although….. after seeing the trailer for Indy 4 next week, I have a feeling that might change. At least temporarily.
“Quantum of Solace” has got to be the coolest title ever for anything.
Check the preview footage via commanderbond.net.
It will crank you UP!!!
Oh yeah… Trek…. still waiting for PIX!!!
22nd! (Prob. 27th..)
Okay I voted too. And I called my cousin Guido in Chicago so he can vote his usual 12 times.
Star Trek should be a Tie with Indiana Jones.
all other movies are insignificant.
How do you vote?
im looking forward (again with a good dose of fear too) to THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL scheduled for dec 12th 08 . this is one of the THE classic science fiction movies of cinema history. like STAR TREK it is one heck of a predecessor to live up to.
cheers

UK
opps sorry I had disabled Javascript… I voted
….and like ST:TMP, it was directed by Robert Wise.
only one I agree with that should be ahead of Trek as of now is Indy 4…Star Trek fans have had to wait 6 years….Indy fans a lot longer…but that doesn’t mean Star Trek shouldnt be #1, especially when there are 7 months in between the two…I tell ya what, by the looks of TrekMovie.com…it sure is the #1 most anticipated film of 2008 and we don’t need a poll to tell us that.
If you’re reading this post, then you are obviously a Star Trek fan. Let’s see if we can jump up a notch or two. All card carrying Trekkers need to vote.
There’s a big gap between now and the release date plus there is not really much of the movie people can be aware of (teaser, website, etc.). So considering all that, I think fourth place is pretty good. The aniticipation will build the closer we get to Christmas.
I read on MSN that Star Trek was one of its top searches and the trailer is #7 on apple’s website. That’s a a good sign!
On a side note, I hate the notion that people dislike Star Trek for no good reason. Whenever I hear somebody say they hate ST I always ask them if they’ve watched it and the prevailing answer is no. I tend to think most people that give that answer are morons. I’m pretty sure other people here have had similar experiences.
MSNBC? As in NBC…The network that CANCELLED STAR TREK!
Sour Grapes????
I thought it was UPN that cancelled ENT
kirks girdle #35
yes absolutely it was directed by TMP robert wise. a classic entry into the sci genre.
cheers

#39 and #40 – I’m not even gonna weigh in on that one. Nope. Uh-uh. ;-)
Only #4? Come on, guys, we should start ancicipating it some more, #4 is not enough! :)
My top 5# list would be…
1. Star Trek
2.The Dark Knight
3.Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
4.Iron Man
5.Quantum of Solace
apparently i have a doppelganger, though we both share the same thought. Can’t wait for TREK 08!!!
This year may be the year that I go to the theaters more than once. I expect to go for at least 4 movies this year. Don’t ask me for a list as it is Friday and the Romulan Ale is kicking in!!
I think there is a message there tho. Seeing as the box office numbers that Harry Potter pulls are so huge, the fact that Star Trek is only 3% behind could mean that the movie will be a huge success and a box office smash!
A couple of things . . .
While I am very anxious to see ST (why else am I here?), I think the reason Coen brothers and Fincher get so much play is because they are trying to broaden the list out to beyond just blockbuster/fan culture-type events (ie, Indy, Batman, ST, etc).
Also, I think the reason Bond is so low is because a lot of people don’t realize “Quantum of Solace” is the new Bond title.
44 – Daniel
My top 5# list would be…
1. Star Trek
2.Iron Man
3.Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
4.The Dark Knight
5.Quantum of Solace
I like your taste in movies ;)
My personal movie list:
1. Star Trek
2. Indy 4
3. Speed Racer
4. Iron Man
5. The Dark Knight
6. The X-Files 2
Unfotunately, I am not looking forward to Get Smart as I have been previously. I’ve heard some not-so-good things about it that have dampened my interest.
Anyone who would rather see Harry Snotter than Star Trek needs to have a thorough mental evaluation.
50Thomas- What have you heard concerning Get Smart?
in your face MSNBC lol
hmm i can get indianna cause well to be honest is just a family movie and it can apeal to everybody,
but come on we can beat harry potter (which is so lame) it always confused me when i see young kids so into it , i mean when i was that age i was reading star trek books , and wells and isaac asimov sci fi books ,( i started reading alots of sci at about 6 ) i always like sci fi more then fanasty , but yea harry potter just seems so watered down when comepared to even tolkiens work , oh well to each to own i just hope there are kids out there who like me are growing up with a love of sci fi like i did , anyway star trek is my number 1 !
Hey, it looks (mostly) like a good geeky year. Woo-hoo!
I’ll love Star Trek, but I could turn my brain off for Speed Racer. Will Chim chim be cgi, ya think? The promos show the Mach 5 holding true to the cartoon, which is awesome.
Dark Knight and Indy 4 are on the list, too. Not so much Iron Man, only because I’ve never followed the strip.
Anyway, fun for all!!
oh just saw the voting , voted for trek , come on people vote for trek
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22921311/
I cast *my* vote…
TREK, bay-bay!
I voted for Star Trak for it is what I lurve mostest!
Internet polls are absolutely utterly worthless when it comes to actually collecting accurate information about what the general public thinks. But of course, I voted for Star Trek anyway! :)
After Star Trek, for myself I’d probably rank Dark Knight and Harry Potter. We’re going to get some great movies this year! I don’t think I went to the movies hardly at all last year.
I have to put Indy 4, The Dark Knight, Iron Man and The Day the Earth Stood Still before TREK, which initially was higher, until the story was revealed to be time travel–something that still has me disappointed and semi-disinterested.
MY TOP THREE:
1) STAR TREK
2) INDIANA JONES 4
3) RENDEZVOUS W/ RAMA (WHEN EVER THEY DO IT).
I voted too.
I’ll be seeing “Burn After Reading” for sure, but more than likely on DVD. “Harry Potter” definitely warrants a trip to the theater with my niece.
Peace. Live long and prosper.
The Vulcanista }:-|
I’m torn between Star Trek and Wall*e!
The adventure continues…
My top 10, for what it’s worth…
1. Star Trek
2. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
3. Dark Knight
4. Quantum of Solace
5. Harry Potter
6. Iron Man
7. Hulk
8. Semi-Pro
9. Get Smart
10. The Love Guru
Given the talent that I’m putting Star Trek above, it had better be phenominal.
My vote’s in(for Star Trek). And I love the new 007 title. I’ve seen every Bond film in the theater starting with You Only Live Twice. And every Star Trek film too. Thanks for the heads up, Anthony,
Off topic, but related…
Does anyone know who has been cast for Finnegan?
I did my duty.
off topic..
tonight’s 1 vs. 100 featured a Star Trek Question.
Which of these is NOT a Star Trek Movie subtitle…
A. The Final Frontier
B. The Search for Bones
C. The Shock of Khan.
I am still laughing.
GUYS!!! I WE ARE DOWN TO 1% TO THAT DAMN MAGICIAN BOY!!!
Oh man… this is going to be a great year for movies. I’m geeked up for Trek, Indy, Narnia, and X Files to be sure.
And Dark Knight… well, I think the new Batman flicks stand a chance of being the best comic book based film series ever. The first one started out great and from the previews, it seems that HL has given the definitive Joker. (Let’s face it- Caesar was too “swishy” and Jack was too old and fat.)
I think I will see move films in the theater this year than I have in the last 10 years combined.
hmm some crazy Trekkie over at the movie forum posted a thread to try and get votes lol
http://www.paramount.com/startrek/forums/showthread.php?p=10000#post10000
oh wait thats me lol !
I went ahead and voted TREK but it looks to be a great year for movies. I gotta say at this point I’m really stoked about IRON MAN and SPEED RACER, with a big nod towards INDIANA JONES and the new BOND, but once the TREK info gets rolling…
TREK in the top 5 ain’t a bad spot to be in.
this one, iron man and dark knight should be great
Irishtrekkie70- They say the first step is admitting you have a problem…
66: dont think its even been stated that finnigan will be in the movie
I think there was a get smart movie released years ago with most of the original cast and I need to say more…
My vote is Trek #1 and I agree with the other ratings on this board. As mentioned above, unless you are into trek or saw Cloverfield, how would most people know really know about ST 11, budget JJ and lets not forget Mr. Nimoy.
We have just seen the tip of the marketing machine that will fire up, once that happens, well fire the phasers and photon torpidos.
I think that when adjusting for release date, Treks score rises, as it comes out much later than most of the others
I’d say in about 30 minutes Trek will overtake that mini-wizard whom Warner Bros. wants to milk every penny out of.
I’m looking forward to:
-Star Trek
-Indiana Jones IV
-The Day the Earth Stood Still
-James Bond
WARNING: This post is Nyquil-free.
Y’all wait for the summer movie season. Trek will be ’sploding all over the place at this site and in the general entertainment media.
Peace. Live long and prosper.

Vulcanista- You can’t leave me alone in my green, syrupy haze… I might mistake Harry for a sane person…
Too late…….heh, heh,………..hmmmmm…..syrupy haze….can’t talk, enjoying! :)
The powers that be have a tough job ahead of them.
They have to convince mainstream audiences that Star Trek is cool. Those two words spoken together aloud in public instantly conjure up images of pointed eared hobgoblins — and that’s not including Spock.
I think the powers that be will have to put out trailers that sell a different image of what the general public has come to expect from Trek. This movie will have to do two things at once very well; convince trekkers that this movie is true to the ideals and story of the original Star Trek, as well as convince non-Trekkers that this movie is nothing like what they understand as Trek.
The marketing for this movie has to border on genius for it to work. A-list names and special effects will not a blockbuster make necessarily. Especially when you have 40 years of cultural programming and stereotyping to overcome.
Stigma. Stigma. Stigma. That is your biggest foe, James Kirk.
Transformers had Megan Fox, rock ‘em sock ‘em robot action, and zero plot.
What does this movie have? The Villain from Heroes and a Back To The Future Plot. Stunt cameos and location shots. But I ask, does this movie have heart? Even if it does, it still needs a Megan Fox.
Simple logic.
Of those films that they offer on the survey (which doesn’t nearly touch on all the films I’m looking forward to), those I have any excitement or hope about are, in order:
1 Wall-E
2 Quantum of Solace
3 Iron Man
4 The Dark Knight
5 Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
6 Burn After Reading
7 Leatherheads
8 Star Trek
9 Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
10 The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
11 Hellboy 2: The Golden Army
I’m certain to see the first six on the list. The others are still in “maybe so/hopeful/waiting for more trailers and reviews” territory, with a special exception for Harry Potter, which I’ll see because my wife will be there so I may as well be snuggled up next to her, regardless of the film :)
I’m looking forward to
1. Star Trek
2. Star Trek
3. Star Trek
4. Star Trek
5. Star Trek

The Vulcanista }:-|
I look forward to the reboot of the Back to the Future series with the part of the the DeLorean recast with a Chevy Cavalier.
Ryan#83- I second that.
Vulcanista- You speak wise words. Now if we could get that poll up to #1… What do you think, maybe a billboard in Times Square (NY), an appropriate message scrolling underneath a picture of a bare-chested Spock in chains with a hot, smirking female holding the end of the lead?
Seriously I think people are sick of Trek, it has saturated TV and movies for a long time. I’m a Trekkie but damn it if I’m not really that excited about ANOTHER Trek show.
I have a feeling that Get Smart movie is going to sucketh.
Honestly, I wouldn’t put much into this. It’s not Roger Ebert’s top 5 or anything. Besides the people have spoken. #3/#4? Awesome! Screw you Mamma Mia!
On that note #63,# 82: i’m glad i’m not the only one who has a soft spot for Wall-E : ) Man that little robot is cute!
#2
have you been watching airplane again :D
#1 Star Trek (obviously)
#2 Indy (Harrison Ford still looks good in the suit)
#3 Quantum of solace (Casino Royale and Daniel Craig where awesome)
#4 Wall-E (cutest robot ever)
#5 Dark Knight (Batman Begins was a good movie, same director doing part 2? count me in)
Trek third place in a 16000 votes poll? Sounds good.
I voted! We’re still at 14%, and have passed Harry Potter! Harry, please do like Mitt Romney and cancel yourself.
I have as soft spot for Indy, and that Iron Man trailer gave me goosebumps like it was 1975 again.
Trek, Indy and IM for me this year.
Run, Spock, run… life is like a box of tribbles…
2008 is shaping up to be one of the best ‘genre’ Movie-going years ever. It has started out strongly with ‘Cloverfield’, and will end with ‘Star Trek’, and my wallet will be dented badly with all the stuff me and my brats will want to see throughout the year. Not that I’m complaining, as it reminds me in part of the many goodies on offer back in ‘82 when I was young ‘un.
Apart from the obvious, which I hope proves to be terrific…I am looking forward to joining ‘Indy’ on one last adventure, along with the excellent ‘Hellboy’ on his second. I am intrigued to see if Mulder and Scully still ‘have it’ on theirs, and will look at the ‘Dark Knight’ from a slightly different perspective now on his… Unfortunately, I had been looking forward to the remake of ‘The Day The Earth Stood Still’ UNTIL I discovered that the lead role had been given to Keanu Reeves… He MAY prove great in this…but equally he may prove to have been better cast as ‘Gort’… And now that John Cleese has also been cast in a prominent role, I cannot take this Movie seriously anymore… The Movie that I predict will give ‘Indy’ a run for top spot this year is…Pixar’s ‘Wal-E’!
I voted for The Dark Knight. Nolan and the rest have proven that they can handle the material and are up to the task. I guess XF2 would be my second choice, even though I know next to nothing about it. But it’s more X-Files–real XF, with the original cast and crew–so it’s a must-see for me. And then Trek. Two direct sequels, and whatever the heck Trek 2008 ends up being.
The rest of these movies aren’t even on my radar–although Hellboy might be worth a rental, and I’ll sit down to watch Indy 4 when it shows up on cable.
It’s now 15%!
Maybe if Shatner was in the film,
it would be more anticipated.
Still big shit news in my house.
Dragging everyone to see it!
Out of the 3 Star Franchises I like:
Star Wars, Star Trek & Stargate,
Star Trek has more appeal to non-geeks.
My Girlfriend likes Star Trek
but could care less about Star Wars.
So I think this film will do well with regular people.
Looks like we are all going to the movies!
#70
I commend my fellow countryman for his dillegence, cheating to achieve our aims is after all the Irish way! As for the rest of you, quit rippin on Hellboy 2! Thou Shalt Not insult Guillmero Del Toro!!!!
I will spend less than 15 dollars on movie tickets this year. Maybe less than 10.
Respect for tradition, casting, canon & acceptance towards a star’s age has Indiana Jones on top of my ‘must see’ list.
X-Files, Star Trek and maybe Indiana Jones…
Star Trek is up to 16% now!!!!
LOL. The collaborative efforts of Trekkies!
As of this time (11:10 am EST, 4:10 pm GMT) it is 16%.
I see #101 is quicker on the keyboard then I am.
“How on earth can Burn After Reading and Benjamin Button be ‘anticipated’ when NOBODY’S heard of them!”
just because you haven’t…
I was just searching my cable provider online (comcast.com) to find out when the remastered Ultimate Computer would be playing, when lo and behold I was surprised and thrilled to see they actually have the teaser trailer for our new movie listed as an On Demand item. Now I will be able to watch the trailer on my newish 42″ HD TV – Thank you Comcast!

Keep it going, guys and gals! Let’s get more anticipated!
17% and climbing………………….:-)
With a very satisfying home theater system in my living room, I rarely “go out” to the movies anymore.
The ONLY film which I am excited enough about to do just that for is Star Trek!!!
#36–6 years? I have been waiting a lot longer than that for quality TOS-era Star Trek!!!!
Indy 4 sounds great, as does the new Bond and X-Files 2, but none of those will get me into a theater. DVD will be just fine.
3% away from Dark Knight!
My top 5:
1) Star Trek
2) Iron Man
3) Indy 4
4) Dark Knight
5) Hulk
TREK is number one movie to me..
@98 , how did i cheat ? lol .
18% now just 2 percent behind the dark knight !!!
Sorry, Dark Knight’s higher on my list. Batman taught me about right and wrong before I’d even heard of Kirk.
It’s going to be much better than Iron Man.
1) Dark Knight
2) Star Trek
3) Indy
The fact that the writers’ strike is now near its end is even more reason to anticipate a great Star Trek movie. They may actually get some significant time shooting without it. That is fantastic. Now it will not be handicapped by a lack of flexibility in the script when the director has a new idea of how to enhance a particular scene, or when the “Supreme Court” decides that adding dialogue, etc. would be beneficiary to the telling of the story.
Star Trek!!!!!
18%…..but still 3rd.
>>it still needs a Megan Fox.
>>Simple logic.
I’ll agree with that, definitely. Make her a Romulan hottie. :)
After reading this site for about two months I must break my silence.
I think everyone here is fantastic, this forum is an awesome community for Star Trek fans, and after what I’ve read on this site am convinced that Trek will be as good as it’s ever been, with this new film.
That being said, great job to all for knocking Potter off his pedestal. If there is anything I can’t stand it’s Pottermania. Number One?
I rarely attend the movies unless I’m with my Twelve year old nephew, but will usually attend the years “biggest” films. For me that includes IJ, Batman, Bond and Star Trek. I’m a huge fan of all four franchises, so this is like a dream year, and my head is ’bout to explode from all the anticipation .
#118—Congratulations on “breaking your silence”. Welcome to the comment boards!
19% Now – Woot!
Oh.Star Trek just became #2.A tie with ‘The Dark Knight”.
Re: # 85 Stanky McFibberish
“I look forward to the reboot of the Back to the Future series with the part of the the DeLorean recast with a Chevy Cavalier.”
That quote is classic! LMAO.
I just read at Wikipedia that they’re remaking “The Smurfs” into a feature film. Now I’ve heard everything. I wonder what Hollywood will co when they’ve recycled every idea they’ve ever had, realize that they’re out of ideas for the second time.
Just Voted : Star Trek now level 2nd with Batman at 19%. Indiana only 4 points ahead on 23%, Potter well back at 12%, Woahoo! Trekies unite, can we push Indy out??!!
Trek is at 20% and is in posession of second place. Once again, the Trek fanbase is being vocal in showing their support. But that is how we operate. Take heed, advertisers.
I AM THX – Wow that is cool. I just saw that before I saw your comment.
So we have gone for second! AWESOME.
Just 2 points separates us from Indy now
Agreed, Devon. Awesome.
I DO hope that as Trek fans we can rally our support for this new movie and make ourselves heard at each opportunity. This is hopefully going to keep the entertainment coming.
For potential advertisers and those who might look at Star Trek as a profitable venture, we are a fanbase that CAN come out in numbers. We do represent a demographic that can and will spend money on our pastime. We are internet and technologically literate and, for the most part can express ourselves intelligently. We are just under a year away from the release date and already the rumble in the distance can be heard.
Well said.
I just cast my vote in the ring. Good job, guys!
Looks like Paramount will rake in some coin this year. If IJ4 does well, they’ll probably make a 5th one. And we all know what to expect if our little film does well. I’m curious what the CBS side is thinking. If Trek XI leads to XII and XIII, at what point will the TV guys start dreaming up a new show?
I am sorry but mine anticipation for Star Trek X! has fallen drasticlly after hearing about the plot & Nimoy. I saw a Star Trerk reboot having great potnial but it seems we are getting another fanboyish Trek film(aka Generations). So this is my list
1. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
2.Iron Man
3. Dark Knight
4. James Bond22
5. Star Trek(maybe)
1. Star Trek
2. Dark Knight
3. The Day The Earth Stood Still
Sorry George Lucas, Indiana is not in my top 3 because the last 3 Star Wars movies you wrote were all hype and CGI. The stories said nothing new. Good thing Spielberg is directing it. It just might need it.
BTW. Star Trek is now only 1% behind Indiana Jones in the MSNBC poll for 1st place.

Yes, one of my favourites as well. Our age is showing if that is the case, for me anyway.
Gort, Klaatu Barata Nikto

Supposedly they are going to be even more faithful to the original book, than the 1951 version.

2008 is turning out to be a potentially fantastic year for sci fi movies.
Trek is now tied with Indy 4 for 1st place
#112
You know that you did!!!!lol
Looks like it’s payin off tho so well done!!
C’mon! It’s tied with Indy!
Oh My…tied for 1st!
@136 , yes it is paying off , now JJ abrams, you should give me a job in marketing !!!!

Star Trek is now the number one most anticipated movie according to the voting!! Good job everybody!!
The remake of War of worlds was bad I am not looking forward to Spielberg doing a remake of when Worlds Collide. I went and saw war with a couple of friends when it came out and we spent the entire time picking the film apart.
The problem was that they changed certain things in the story which undermined the whole film. First off the aliens weren’t from Mars they were from somewhere else. second These machines were buried under the cities fror how many millions odf Years? and no body ever found them? 3rd what was the whole point of the invasion? In the original Mars was dying and they needed a place to live. By making them not from Mars it takes away a major element of the story.
On the subject of Star trek I am looking forward to this one because I would love to see Abrams take on Star trek. With his track record it should be a great film
#143 – I agree 100% on War of the Worlds. I recently watched the original again and was amazed at how good the special effects were for the 50’s. I felt the original captured the feeling of terror more than the newer version. When Worlds Collide is another one of my favorite movies; I hope they do a better job.
I am trusting JJ and company to do right by Star Trek. I will let you know on Dec 26th how I feel.
We are # 1…great that the new movie surpassed even Harry Potter.
144 – With the exception of Star trek I have become soured on remakes in general. I hate what the filmmakers do to these classic films. They have change and rearrange and reinterpret and in the end more often then not you have film that is vastly inferior to the original. I fear what Spielberg is going to do to when worlds collide. I also shudder at what they are going to do to the Day the Earth Stood Still. I thank god that no one is going to be remaking my favorite classic scifi film Quatermass and the Pit aka Five Million Years to Earth, I couldn’t bear that. Hollywood has forgotten how create, all its doing is living off the past and in the long run thats not good the movie industry or for movie going audiences . In short we are being cheated
Currently, the only contest in that poll is Indy and Star Trek, followed by a paltry showing for Harry Potter and Ironman.
Peace. Live long and prosper.

Pity Iron man actually looks like it might be good and as for Indy 4 , I have waited for that one to happen for a long time,

You are forgetting about Dark Knight.
Which by the way, is also looking like a great movie.
Hey, any thoughts on the Washowski brothers Speed Racer movie? is that one even on the list of most anticipated or must see. The preview of the Dark Knight makes me want to see it. Heath Ledger looked awesome as the Joker. It looks like he really made that one his own, eriely he kinda reminded me of Brandon Lee’s Crow. What happened to him beyond tragic.
146 – The Vulcanista – similar thoughts here, too!
swish and flick
(by the way – I always thought the }:-| was quite ingenious!)
