The Collective: Retro Mugatu and Uhura Mego Figures Announced

This has been active week of news for retro Mego Star Trek action figures. Earlier this week we reported a newly designed Khan figure was coming out this summer and ToyNews is reporting the original Uhura and the Mugatu Megos are on their way later this year as well.

The Mugatu was seen in the episode "A Private Little War" where it presented quite a challenge to Captain Kirk. The original Mego version from the 1970s is one of the more unusual action figures, mostly due to the decision to include funky hippie clothes on the Mugatu. Because of its design and limited release, an original Mego Mugatu is often expensive and this reproduction could help many fans afford the otherwise unattainable toy. The 1970s Mego Uhura is much closer to the actual character, especially its excellent costuming. With the release of Uhura, all of the original Star Trek main characters have now been reproduced for the retro line (there never was a Sulu or Chekov action figure).

With their very good detailing, these figures continue the line which reproduces the classic Mego toys. The figures are distributed by Diamond Select Toys and produced by EMCE Toys. As of this summer, DST and EMCE will have released Kirk, Spock, Scotty, McCoy, Uhura, Klingon, Andorian, Romulan, and the Keeper from the original 1970s line. This leaves Cheron, Gorn, Neptunian, and Talos action figures requiring release. However, the retro line is being expanded to include action figures not from the original Mego toys. Trekmovie.com reported earlier this week about Mego Khan, the first of these "original" retro style figures.

Expect more Star Trek Toys news to come later this week from the New York Toy Fair.

Special thanks to reader Jeff for the tip.  As many readers know, the Mugatu is a friend of the site, but he could not be reached for comment as he is busy shopping for more clothes

That doesn’t do much justice to Nichelle.

That skirt is a little……short?

The pose that the neptunian is in looks like it was smashed on the car windshield! How about that music, a hypnotic Star Trek Star Trek Star Trek Star Trek Star Trek Star Trek Star Trek Star Trek

WTF is up with those aliens?! Haha … those Mego designers apparently only had a passing familiarity with the show.

Just grabbed Spock but geez, 27 bucks CAN vs. 20 bucks US for my Kirk at the Vegas Experience. So much for the Loonie at par with the Greenback. Must be the extra S&H by sleddog to my igloo … eh?

Rereleasing this line, plus Remastered Trek, plus the new movie, plus Playmates doing the movie stuff, wow pretty amazing stuff … eh?

Who the hell is the Neptunian?

#6–No kidding. I don’t remember that.

pretty sure that mugato is one of the gorilla soldiers from the planet of the apes toy series (also by mego, i think), with of course white hair and a dog penis grafted on to the skull.

THAT MUGATU OUTFIT…

Didn’t I see Roger Daltry wear that once during his heyday with the Who…?

#8 –

LOL!!! Sick, but oh-so true.

Ok cool, let’s see the movie figures and accessories please.

Ironically, it looks more like Zoe Saldana than Nichelle.
(11th!- but really 15th… maybe.)

The Neptunian was a made up alien that was never in TOS, but many have alluded to TAS as the inspiration for the Neptunian alien Mego as it was brand new when the alien Megos were in production. It also has a strong resemblance to the Aquan aliens in the TAS episode “The Ambergris Element”.

Personally I think the Neptunian is a cross between an Aquan and a Phylosian (another TAS alien)!

Lt. Yuhura to the bridge, please.

#8-

I dunno. I used to LOVE Planet of the Apes as a kid almost as much as Star Trek and I had the Cornelius and Urko action figures and I think one of my friends also may have had a gorilla soldier (but I’m not too sure). I do know that Urko’s face didn’t look like that. Man, I wish I still had those.

Harry Ballz, Mugato finally got his due…

Uhura

No kidding! There was like a, what, 30 year drought of cool original TOS stuff from the seventies, and like within one year, a torrential flood of goodies!

I am like so overspent for the year snapping up all of these cool retro Trek releases, and just when I think I have purchased every cool retro Trek thing re-released BOOM another cool toy comes out!

Not that I’m complaining. Will be pre-ordering Uhura and Mugatu, Just received Spock and the Andorian and am oh so pleased with them.

Just when I made my last credit card payment, and had a balance of $0.00, I am back in debt again!

These latest 2 releases are very good news for the promise of all of the retro Alien Megos coming out, as they are not on the retro packaging cards of the previously released figures. I am wondering what is on the retro Mego Uhura and Mugatu packaging cards now.

This is also good news for the promise of Star Trek Mego playsets coming out in the future as well.

I think I saw Mego Uhura outside the Clairmont Lounge on Ponce.
(OK, you really have to be an Atlantans to fully appreciate the seediness of that comment.)

Mugatu’s got clothes…dohhhhhh!

I wonder if/when there will be figures of the iconic characters that look like the new actors. (A Chris Pine Kirk, a Zachary Quinto Spock, etc)….

I hope they release the playsets.

Yes, Uhura!

Watch the vid. Dude says Yuhura.

I bet Harry Ballz wants a box of Mugato dolls!

And it wasn’t a woman… ;-)

Addendum to #25

#18, I was surprised at how much info is on Google regarding Clairmont Lounge. Here’s some info.

Sleaze at its finest! And yeah, you actually might run across “Uhura” at the Clairmont.

Peace. Live long and prosper.

And isn’t Uhura missing some of her costume in that pic above??

Peace. Live long and prosper.
The Vulcanista }:-|

Why does Uhura look big enough to kick Mugatu’s ass?

Looks like they picked the scrawniest Mugatu on the friggin’ planet!

#28

And why does he have more clothes than Uhura?

Peace. Live long and prosper.

#29

Funny, that part doesn’t bother me for some reason!

#30

Well, duh! :)

But, still… It just don’t seem right somehow, Uhura being without her dance pants and all.

Peace. Live long and prosper.

Gee whiz, I’m cordial and friendly to the few female Trek fans who post on this site and, suddenly, I’m the lecher of Trekdom………golly, I’m just trying to extend the hand of friendship to like-minded fans…………

By the way, that’s a lovely dress you have on today, Ms. Vulcanista! :)

Alright, a Mugato in clothes is not canon, but after all there may be many Mugatos out there (even a different tribe wearing costume) and nobody says this figure is personating THE Mugato.

So, let’s be grateful for *a* representative of the varied Mugato population. :)

Personally, I think THIS Mugatu looks a little “light in the loafers”, if you get my drift..

Who the hell would want a Mugatu figure?

#33

Well if you want “THE” Mugato, maybe you can just strip off his clothes! Wonder if it’s all fur under there!

Sheesh! I can’t begin to count how many things are wrong with that statement! :)

#36

Sorry, but to begin and end with, you didn’t get my actual statement.

Good luck next time and Cheers! :)

#8

…not everybody keeps their genitals in the same place… :D

#38

LOL!!

Now *that’s* a line I’d like to see written into the new movie after the strike settles!

Peace. Live long and prosper.
The Vulcanista }:-|

Oh, wait. I just realized as I hit “Send It”, that was in VI, wasn’t it?

Still a good line.

Peace. Live long and prosper.

Gives new meaning to calling someone a “dickhead”, doesn’t it?

This is fantastic news! WTG Diamond Select! And with four original aliens yet to re-release, it sounds like a perfect time to (finally) make and pair them with a Sulu, Chekov, Chapel and Rand. Here’s hoping!

I really hope that they`ll release Sulu,Chekov,Yeoman Rand,Nurse Chapel
to “couple” the 4 remaining aliens(Gorn/Talosian/Cheron/Keeper)while
being at it,a Sarek figure would be “interesting” since the news of the Kahn figure release! Why noy the tellarite ambassador,Harry Mudd and all
the others that the customizers sell for a fortune…
Everybody should have his own Star Trek TOS universe!Lol!
