Jeri Ryan Increases Her Collective March 3, 2008

On Sunday Jeri Ryan, Voyager’s Seven of Nine, welcomed Gisele into the collective, her first child with restaurateur hubby Christophe Emé. A rep for Jeri tells People Magazine “Both parents are thrilled, Jeri is resting comfortably, and Christophe is playing the part of proud new papa quite well.” Gisele Emé weighs in at 7 pounds, 13 ounces and is Ryan’s second child, joining Alex (13), from her first marriage. Congrats Jeri!
In the fall of last year, Ryan told Plum (a magazine for moms-to-be) how Alex took the news he wasn’t going to be an only child anymore:
He has been asking for a brother or sister for years. But I wasn’t thinking of how big of a big brother Alex would be at this point. I was thinking more about the fact that this was a new marriage and not wanting him to feel left out.
But the age difference hit home when I told him I was pregnant. His immediate reaction was, ‘You mean you’re having sex already?!’ Then I remembered that when I was 13, my best friend’s mom got pregnant and we were mortified.

I always thought Jeri elevated the 7 roll well above and beyond (SAaB…another good show that got canceled…sigh) the simplistic desire of Rick Berman’s. My sister, who is very protective of what her children watch (mostly from a ‘This Film Is Not Yet Rated’ perspective - the whole MPAA has it backwards and too much of the wrong kind of violence is bad, and sex in and of itself is fine, so long as it’s not degrading or sexist…but I digress), will let her 10 year old watch Voyager and kinda likes that character, and that’s saying a lot :)

#22 thomoz Jeri Ryan does have an indirect influence to Obama’s success. I think you can read about it in the archives or google it, but basically her ex Jack Ryan was up for a senate seat up in Illinois; yet, there were allegations from the divorce stating amongst other things he wante to go to sex clubs and all sorts of things. He dropped out of the race he was likely to win; thus, leaving a spot open for Obama. Obviously he won the senate seat, and is continuing his success.
I hope this does not constitute a “political” post.

For those who aren’t in the know… when he ran in ‘04 for the Illinois Senate seat, the Republican candidate originally was Jeri’s first husband. Yes, the *real* Jack Ryan, not the Clancy character.
And then his sealed divorce papers came out, which included allegations of Ryan pushing Jeri into going to places to create sex scenes, orgies, whatever.
So, he had to pull out about 3 months before the election. Alan Keyes stepped in, and essentially had no chance at all, but did guarantee that whether Keyes or Obama won, there’d be a black senator from Illinois.
So, if Jeri hadn’t divorced Jack, his dirty little secret would never have come out, and Jack very likely would have gotten the Senate seat in a squeaker.
So, that’s how 7 of 9 set the stage for Obama.

Seven of Nine, one of the few good reasons to watch Voyager. Jeri Ryan is both a beautiful and talented actress. She is also one of the only likable characters in the Television legal drama Shark.

I thought she played the part of a human freed from the Collective quite well. It probably was the PTB that made her wear the stupid suit. They knew exactly what they were doing. Can’t say I’d object if I were in her place. What an opportunity (to become part of Trek lore) albeit in a spandex jumpsuit. Guess they couldn’t have given her a Starfleet uniform at the beginning because (as Picard said to Q once) you have to earn the privilege to wear it.
Even though I’m a little jealous, I thought she did an excellent job and love most of the episodes she’s in. (Don’t like all the stories, but thought she did well regardless.)

Getting back to Jeri Ryan, to be able to play an character like Seven of Nine with here conflicts and quirks requires acting talent. She done a few other roles, She playe a Sentinel Baddie on the series Sentinel,Had major role in Dark Skies, Boston Public. She is very good .

Garovorkin, IMHO Jeri’s acting was one-note on VOY. She was basically a Spock clone dealing with both her emotional/non-emotional halves, which she did poorly but no one cared with her looking so yummy. Seven was the worst SciFi acting since Valerie Bertinelli in CHOMPS. Plus, this is a Jeri Ryan thread so how can you not expect it to be focusing on her looks?
At least Jeri Ryan was a better actress than a would-be Vulcan, T’Pathetic.
One-note is a correct assessment of Many of the actors who have taken on Vulcan and other detatched non-human roles in Trek. Leonard Nimoy set the gold standard. Not only is he more than just emotionless (and bored) but he allows the audience to see past the facade into the very real feelings his character works so hard to hide. There are nuances there. Mark Lenard (sp?) did a great job as well.
Not so with most other performances. The actors look bored. Just bored. And bored is boring to watch. One of these performances was a key component in Enterprise’s failure.

Nimoy was definitely the one to model a Vulcan after. Mark Lenard wasn’t bad either. However, I did think that Tim Russ made a good Vulcan. The way his character reacted to the Neelix character was, well, typically Vulcan IMO. Actually, until they made Neelix less aggravating, I found myself having the same reaction as Tuvok. Guess we all have different taste and opinions.
