#69----I fail to see where any of the other recasts have shown anything but respect and awareness of the performances of their predecessors. What is the basis for your assessment of their level of respect and awareness expressed thusfar? You don't have to look any further than right here at trekmovie.com to find such statements from all of the recasts. I remember your frustration toward some of Pine's comments, but even those were accompanied by an expression of admiration and respect for his predecessor's work with the character.

Pegg does seem to be the best Trek-politician out of the group, but I don't think that casts anything negative over the rest of the actors. They have all expressed respect for Star Trek's past, while naturally hoping to bring the best performance they possibly can to the table as well. What else do you want from them? None of them has suggested that they will ever "outdo" the original cast, nor have they expressed a lack of respect for their work. This is a tribute to the work of the "originals", which they are all priviledged to be a part of. It has been MY impression that they are all approaching this project in that manner. Naturally, since this film is not a parody, they will not be doing imitations. Rather, they will all use the various acting talents they have to make this a good movie.

When these films are done, nothing about the originals will be changed. Shatner will STILL be the original Kirk, Nimoy will STILL be the original Spock, Kelley will STILL be the original McCoy, and so on. All that their choices of words proves is that Pegg is probably a more mature professional, and that he "gets" the fanboy/fangirl microscope. You want them all to be humble to the point of completely minimizing their importance to the film---exactly what your favorite Trek actor never was. This attitude makes no sense to me, I'm afraid.

You are still, of course, entitled to your own opinion.

Agreed; I just wish we would hear such statements - expressing awareness and respect - from the other re-casts, as well.

I demand that Scotty be played by a nine-fingered Canadian.

Anything less would be heresy.

So help me out here. Does that mean you're pissed?

I also remember reading that Pine HAD watched Kirk's portrayal before ( I mean, c'mon, EVERYONE has seen Shatner's portrayal of Kirk), he just is avoiding it now so as not to come off like a bad Shatner impression. Why act like another actor? Pegg said he is avoiding doing a Scotty imitation out of respect to Doohan. I don't think Pine is going to pull out a bullwhip or fire at Greedo first. He just wants to give the character that style of fallible human being as a hero.

You praise one guy while you berate another for saying essentially the same thing about their approach to their character.

#1 The fact that he had watched it is enough... and that he understood/liked the character of Scotty...
I think he will rock, and was possibly (along with Quinto) the most inspired casting. I yelled for joy when he was cast.

Now had he said (like a certain actor playing a certain captain) that he was not watching TOS, nor was a fan nor had ever watched it, and was patterning his character on Harrison Ford... THEN I would be pissed ;)

I wish people would stop worrying about canon.

I heard the new Scotty is an android, and the new Kirk is gay. And the new Enterprise goes to warp 11( 1 better than the old one). And the Klingon's now have laser's.

It sound's cool. Who care's about the old 1950s' version? This will rock and be almost as good as Transformers only with more explosions and less boring bits with talking. :)
