In one novel (I forget the name) with Kirk's father the security cheif on the Enteprise under April, the young Jimmy was using his excess drive and energy to get into reckless trouble, until his dad took him on the ship. The nhe began the path to command and the man we know today. Unfocused, that energy could have made him turn out badly. So I can see him getting into some trouble early on.

Silly Kirk! Every one knows that is Boba Fett's Vett. Don't be scratchin on his itch. You know he shoots to git.

What am I talking about? See for yourself. (NSFW)

75. SChaos1701 - April 11, 2008
"#35. They probably couldn’t work out a contract with the teamsters to work in Iowa. Usually, unless there is a scene that can’t be worked on at the studio or at a location within a certain distance, they have to work out a separate contract with the teamsters to go out that it costs a LOT of money."

If you are referring to why they didn't film in Iowa... It's likely NOT what you describe. The film schedule and the needs of the scene are likely to blame. The scene probably called for "Iowa" in spring or summer and the filming is just wrapping up in April. Here in Iowa, spring is just starting and if they had filmed this week in Iowa, they would have seen snow, sleet rain and cold temps.... not spring or summer like conditions.

I would have liked to see them here... but I know why

49- "the majority of Bakersfield is flat area- mostly dusty, some farmland. The hills are on visible only on 2 contiguous sides, so they could shoot the scene with the hills to the back of the camera and replicate Iowa’s flat landscape."

While Iowa does not have mountains... we have hills...Iowa is not nearly as flat as you think.

49. Chris Mulrooney - April 11, 2008
"I am orginaly from Iowa. NW Iowa. I have been near Riverside and that area of the state. There are now big Hills located in Iowa. It’s the Great Plains for a reason. (Don’t think the Production staff has ever been to Iowa. :( ) \

Should have found flatter area with out the hills."

What part of NW Iowa? Near Sioux City here.

I think Chevrolet is striking back, publicity-wise. The Ford Mustang is getting exposure with the new Knight Rider. So now Chevy's product placement weenies are putting a Corvette into Trek XI.

Corvette drop-tops have been featured in historical fiction about NASA astronauts: "Apollo 13", "The Right Stuff," etc. And since J.J. seems to be trying to establish a stronger relationship between the Trek world and our current world, providing a universally recognizable symbol of 20th century American culture will drive that connection home to audiences. Instead of corny flying skateboards and robo-air-taxis that we can't relate to, J.J. is literally bringing Trek down to earth with the Little Red Corvette and all that it symbolizes: freedom, adventure, blondes...

But hey, there' no reason why he who is The Kirk, The Creator, couldn't have retrofitted it with a small fusion reactor and electric actuators at all four wheels, right? Gasoline will probably be illegal in the 2200s anyway.

They probably won't have to do anything to get rid of the mountains. It's that smoggy here, we seldom see them.
