Its not like we are asking for much here, Why can't the studios hire some competent scribes to write at least decent stories, that shouldn't hard, Hell some of the people writing the fan fiction on line could do a far better job then the flunkies that they've got churning out the scripts for these cow patty feature films. The sad part is the Bonzo's running the studios have this really neat little fallback if the film fails ,its called DVDs. So really quality is the last thing on their rather limited minds, so long as thy get joe average to plunk down 20 plus dollars for a box office turkey which in the good old days would have either not gotten made or would have gotten a few of these studio honcho canned if the films flopped at the box office. The DVD sales in some case actually make more money for them then the run in theaters. Even a turkey can be a bonanza for the studios.

Oh...why no mention of The Mummy 3?

Hell, I didn't even know this sequel was coming out until this past weekend...

But, no Rachel Weisz...that's too bad...

#45 -- Exactly! The people behind the AvP films ARE hacks!

The sticker on the DVD release for AvP: Requiem says it all -- "Special Edition with More Gore! More Blood!". While that has been PART of the Alien films, that was never the focus.

Oh well, another franchise bites the dust. Well, actually Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection weren't very good either to be quiet honest.

Overall, the franchise was ruined.

The Spirit looks yucky. Way to serious and Millery (that's a word). Indy being really long isn't wonderful news because, to me, when a book or movie is too long, that often means the story wasn't hammered out enough. Hopefully not the case. I'm somewhat glad the JLA keeps getting tabled, as I can't see that being very good, somehow. Still iffy on the Hulk, but can't wait for Iron Man and The Dark Knight!

Only, and I stress O-N-L-Y, if he lets somebody else write it and direct it. GL is a brillinat Visual FX director, but leave the important parts like story and performances to a real director. Rumor had it that at one point Spielberg would have made Ep III, while Ron Howard tackled EP II. THAT would have been freakin' sweet.

Its cheaper and safer to do remakes then take any chances on new things or so Hollywood believes. In the long run this is not a winning formula for them or the rest of us.

THE SEX FILES: I WANT TO CONCEIVE

Sorry... had to get that one out of the way.

Actually, the synopsis for the film doesn't really excite me. Oooh, religious wackos turn out to be killers? Really... you don't say! Geez... how tired a concept is that. Hey, let's make them Catholic priests so we'll be *really* cutting-edge. Look at us...we're so novel!

And Mulder and Scully are gonna get back together for a non-alien, non-world-threatening case? After six years? Um... I don't think so.

Oh, and Gillian Anderson may be the thinking man's wet dream, but not with that early-1970s 'do. Lord have mercy.

#50 With regard to Nigel Kneale i am bit biased on this one, I revere his stuff. Quatermass was kind of precursor to the X files. Ronald Quatermass like Fox Mulder was a seeker of truth. and no ne tened to believe him untill it was almost to late . Quatermass and the pit is very Lovecraftain film in many ways creepy, would suggest checking out the 1958 6 part tv seriall Quatermass and the Pit its on dvd . its even better then the1967 movie version which is alo on dvd but hard to get. though I like both equally well. if you do get in make sure to have a mulit regional dvd player.

Season of the Witch was indeed a debacle. I think part of the problem was Carpenter calling it Halloween 3, implying to most moviegoers it was a continuation of the first 2 movies. When they realized it wasn't, they revolted. He might have done better had he called it something else entirely.

The basic storyline - a madman plotting to kill children by blowing up their masks on Halloween - wasn't so bad. Part of the problem was the story got stidetracked with androids full of custard and a host of other issues, not the least of which was some spectacularly awful peformances.

I've never read or heard of the original script, but it sounds interesting.
