Another problem in only giving us the happy talk about how canon is being respected while trying to open the film up to a broader audience, is, well, WE GOT THE EXACT SAME SONG AND DANCE FROM BERMAN AND HIS PET MONKEY BRANNON WITH EVERY NEW PROJECT TO COME DOWN THE PIKE!!!

So, sorry, but we're all out of good will and trust on this side of the street.

Show me the damn ship already.

Jeffrey#63- The double-dumb ass on you - funny! Gave my first laugh of the day... However, trekker and the rest of us should leave G-d out of our colorful metaphors here. Rules: Hit the chat tab at the top of the page and read Anthony's rules. Family-friendly. Anthony usually warns or deletes the type of language trekker used at #18 when he sees it.

Since we have a whole year to wait I would suspect more info will be leaked out. It is just entropy. I doubt that the amount of knowlege I have about the movie before I see will change my opinion of it one way or another. Its either going to be a good movie or not.

One thing I wonder about is how much merchandising will occur before the movie's release. Would be cool to see some before the release....

#62 i'm failing to locate these 'rules' you mention on this site, specifically that pertain to using appropriately (or even inappropriately) placed 'colorful metaphors'... so double dumb-ass on you (har!)

#61 there is nothing noble in embracing the lack of even the most meager table scraps from this production...

it is very nice that we get reports about the movie's progress, and some of it is a little interesting (they plucked his eyebrows? woo hoo! i better have a lie down....) and i'm not ungrateful.

i find it a little suspicious that all we get are propagandistic reassurances that everything is just fine, while nothing visual is imparted... its all pep talk about what a great team is in charge, and nothing else for the core fans to judge for themselves... why? why not show those who are interested a few production shots?

again, visual materials were in steady supply during the productions of star wars episodes 1 thru 3, and the movie suffered exactly nothing from it; the core fans were happy and felt more involved. its not unreasonable to expect a few scraps thrown our way, is it?

by contrast, alienation of the core fans seems to not be a consideration in the least for this production, how about a few shots of the sets? or even a sketch or two?

and the point that there would be no surprises left is a matter of self responsibility, if you dont want to spoil the surprise, avoid spoilers.

easy-peasy.

Jeffrey Wright#58- Whatever you tell yourself when you look in the mirror is your business, Jeffrey. However, there are rules on this board, and although trekker seems to think he is above them, and apparently you agree, perhaps you need to be reminded.

58. Jeffery Wright: "anyway, production materials released as the movies were shot were good enough for geo lucas, they should be good enough for this abrams character, dont we all agree?"

Not really. Different people, different strokes. Frankly I like that Abrams and others have managed to hide things from the overly voracious internet fandom. These days there are rarely any secrets and surprises left if you aren't careful. This reminds me of the beautifully agonizing days before TMP.

"spoiled brats… we’re the customers in this sitch… and the ones who have supported the franchise all these years"

No argument. We are the customers and we have supported the franchise. And the principles involved have been nothing but respectful and classy towards us. We repay that by kvetching, harping and bratty behavior. Actually maybe its worse...we should know better, we aren't children. So perhaps its more akin to snotty teenagers with a gigantic sense of entitlement.

All we are owed is a good movie. Anything above that is gravy. That doesn't mean we can't wonder, or have doubts or question. Thats perfectly valid. What we shouldn't do it attack, demand or gripe.

Perhaps I am foolish but I would like to think Star Trek fans would be above that.

NigelBrimstone - April 23, 2008

Hey. Vista is getting much better. Many people don't have problems anymore. Everybody was whining when XP first came out too. Funny how easily people forget that

all the best humor is juvenile... and calling for the damnation of god(s) is an age old tradition, long predating christianity

i'd say it was entirely called for in this case...

and i'm certain the creator takes no offense, so maybe we should be more godlike ourselves, and take less offense, as well

anyway, production materials released as the movies were shot were good enough for geo lucas, they should be good enough for this abrams character, dont we all agree?
