I may have to go out and buy this issue as it was SUPPOSED to be the first issue I received in my subscription, but alas due to the USPS not starting my mail forward fast enough, it is now more than likely lost in oblivion.

77/78: JJ has not even started the marketing campaign yet. No suspense has been built at all.

I still speak with non-fans/casual watchers who have no idea there is a new film coming.

The posthumously misplaced trailer is all there is.

#77 "JJ’s building up the suspense…"

Absolutely. He has to pace this thing, it's all about momentum. The last thing you want to do is build up too much hype too soon. Do that and you run the risk of puttering out before the movie is even released, not to mention, the more the hype, the greater the risk of the movie not living up to the hype...and nobody wants that....with the exception of stanky of course lol

76. Mage - April 29, 2008
"I don’t understand all the secrecy…

Fans will go to see the movie no matter what, and non-fans won’t care."

Fans will see it, but to be successful, current non-fans are needed as well. JJ's building up the suspense...to get people talking, I don't believe this is a Paramount thing.
We are the customer, but this is the unveiling of a "new" vision of Trek and like the old days of car sales, the product is kept under wraps until the premiere date.
Think of it as Christmas... or do you open your gifts in October?

Patience is a good thing... it'll pay in the end. Hang in there.

I don't understand all the secrecy...

We've been seeing pics and trailers for Ironman for a year. They won't hurt the box office at all.

This is just a continuation of Paramounts contempt for the fans that have supported the franchise to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars.

Star Trek is Paramounts most lucrative property, and as a fan... I'm angry that Paramount treats us as we were something they'd rather scrape off their shoes.

The customer is always right, except with Paramount who prefers to serve us crap and wonder why we don't like it.

Fan films like Phase II, OGAM, Exeter and Farragut. et al are giving us the red meat we're not getting from Paramount.

I wish someone else owned the property... Someone who realizes that being kind to the fan base pays off at the bank.

Fed up waiting for a new trailer/teaser, fed up waiting for photos of the cast in costume, really fed up waiting for pictures of the Enterprise. Fed up with hearing how great this movie is going to be.

Basically, I think that I am fed up at the moment.

Think I will just go to bed until May 2009

I appreciate that some posters hold the opinion that Shatner should be in this and I did too when the possibility of this movie was announced. But that boat has sailed and the film is in post production with a non-Shat storyline.
Not trying to rain on anyone's parade...just stating facts as I know them

Bryant Burnette (71)

Nick Meyer and Harve Bennett are not 'second-rate talents:' Nick Meyer has has had a solid, unshowy career writing and directing projects that interested him (a dream to most of us!) and Harve Bennett has been a successful producer in TV and has a bunch of movies on his CV too.

If you're the sort of person who reads garbage celeb mags and defines success by how much hype and press you get then you'll perceive that they haven't succeeded. Then again, by such criteria, I think those two would consider themselves extremely successful.

How many films and TV shows have you written or produced? If, in your life you had been a key player in the films such as The Informant, Sommersby, Star Trek VI, Fatal Attraction (retooling the last act to make it a commercial success,) Star Trek IV, Star Trek II, Time After Time, The Seven-Per-Cent Solution, The Mod Squad, The Six Million-Dollar Man and the rest of its spin-offs, you'd be pretty proud!

I work in TV and there are all sorts of good and bad shows I've worked on, regional shows, national shows, good stuff, garbage. Most people in this business have solid, unshowy careers turning out stuff that is solid and consistent. If your rationale for success is having your photo splashed all over magazines for morons, then they've failed. Most of us don't seek that: we want a paycheque at the end of the month and to do the best with the jobs we are given!

On what planet do either Nicholas Meyer or Harve Bennett rank amongst the greats of the film industry? Both are/were second-rate talents who just happened to do great work on a few Trek movies.
