Pine isn’t promoting anything else, that’s why, and it is not yet time to “officially” promote STXI.

And they have met (had lunch). Shatner doesn’t strike me as a “mentor-type” guy. By Pine’s account, his other correspondence with Shatner only amounted to this bit of great advice.
“Stop brown-nosing and just play it straight.”
Wow. How helpful. No wonder he is more influenced by Harrison Ford’s style of acting.

Maybe they are going to have this movie shortly before the 5 year-mission and then re-make the original series (re-imagine). I know many fans would not like this but one has to admit the 60’s series is a little out-dated now for the upcoming generations. I’m not saying this is what they are planning on doing, they might have something completely different planned, but it is certainly possible.

Hat Rick…you’re right about the ‘77 release. It appears that it wasn’t until the ‘81 re-release (after ESB was given a number and title) that it was added. Here is exactly what wiki says:

The film was originally released as—and consequently often called—Star Wars, without Episode IV or the subtitle A New Hope. The 1980 sequel, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, featured an episode number and subtitle in the opening crawl. When the original film was re-released in 1981, Episode IV: A New Hope was added above the original opening crawl. Although Lucas claims that only six films were ever planned, representatives of Lucasfilm discussed plans for nine or 12 possible films in early interviews.[26] The film was re-released theatrically in 1978, 1979, 1981, 1982, and 1997.

My bad and as I’ve always stated I will always admit when I’m mistaken. I was there in ‘77 (though I was but a lad of 10 at the time). My memory isn’t good to begin with…so I should’ve checked before opening my mouth and inserting my sometimes overly adamant foot.

The question was, “did the crawl in the original 1977 Star Wars have the title of Episode IV: A New Hope?”

And the answer is……(cue dramatic music)….

YES! It did indeed have that title from the very beginning. It was always a part of a larger story Lucas hoped to tell. While it was made as a one-off, it was also planned as the beginning of a series of films.

And anyone who states regarding SW:ESB “despite its technical virtuosity, seemed a bit dissatisfying because by then Lucas knew that he was going to make a series of movies,” is in a definite minority. “Dissatisfying?” The Empire Strikes back is hands down considered the best of all of the Star Wars films. Hmmmm.

And as for Zoe being at GLAAD? Yea, a lot of people think gays deserve equal rights and they’re not gay. Wow. Imagine that. Open minded and supportive people in the straight community. Geesh! You do have a brain…right?

And lastly…Shatner has NOT been DISSED! He was consulted by JJ early on. Pine stated he wrote to him and did not receive a reply. He then stated he did finally speak briefly with him. And I’m pretty damn sure that if Shatner WANTED to come to the set he would’ve been extremely welcome! Get OVER IT!

I would venture that when I saw Star Wars in 1977, the Episode IV notation was definitely not there. I believe that all DVD copies of 1977 have been retconned with the notation, “Episode IV: A New Hope.”

re: Shatner’s set visit.

For those of you getting all bent out of shape about Shatner on the set. Do you know he wasn’t invited? It IS possible that was and didn’t have time or the inclination. I don’t know one way or another, but I don’t see the point in getting too concerned with it unless some facts are known.

One more time with gusto: The people who are talking about Trek are people who are being interviewed and are hyping other projects that are out there now or soon about to be. Pine and some of the others are quiet because they aren’t. Simple as that.

And no one knows for sure if Shatner has visited the set. And if he has I bet they keep it a secret. Simple as that.
