59, I agree it was a good movie. Gwenyth Paltrow was great in it, too. Anyone else notice how much she looks a bit like the actress who played Peter Parker's love interest in the Spiderman movies?

The new Stargate movie looks great as does the X-Files. Not sure on Hulk, the last one was a disasterphy.

I just assumed that the hole in his chest was causing him so much trouble, and the shards weren't helping any. But the fact that we're discussing such a small issue is proof that it was a good movie.

Great comments, 57. Nice rationalizations and thanks also for agreeing on Stane's motivatiobns.

About No. 2, Downey's portrayal made it seem that the loss of the power unit was already affecting him in some way, which I'm not sure would really be the case unless the shards were already starting to injure him. But medically I'm not sure how that's possible. When I heard Yinsen's explanation, I thought what he meant was that the shards were inside the heart and that without the electromagnet they would eventually migrate into the heart and kill him. But eventually migrating and actually having them inside the heart would be separate considerations, and the period before they reached the heart wouldn't necessary involve any deterioration. It would be like having a blood clot in an artery -- in many cases, until it breaks free and causes a heart attack, there's no warning. (That said, I'm no medical doctor.) Anyway, your rationalization is still pretty good.

On No. 4, I would assume that in addition, Stark would have a means of recharging the power unit. That would make sense, since he's got to know that the thing would eventually run down. (Unless, of course, the power unit was a disposable and he never actually got around to manufacturing a replacement disposable because he never anticipating losing so much power so quickly, but that's a minor issue.)

#52, I think you got Stane's motivations and rationalizations perfectly; that's how I saw it as well.

As to those nitpicks, I try not to examine these movies too closely (it usually gets in the way of the fun) but here are some probably weak rationalizations for you.

#2, Based on what Yinsen told Stark at the start of the movie, the electromagnet kept the shards from moving around; once it lost power, they would start floating towards Stark's heart and kill him, but not right away. Thus the fact that he had some time to make it to his lab. This is also consistent with the comics (at least when I used to read them back in the early 70's).

#3, As I recall, Stark needed Pepper more to reach in and pull out a wire inside his chest cavity that was causing some interference which he could not get at because his hands were to big. He had started to replace the ARC generator on his own, suggesting that he could have done it if it hadn't been for that errant wire.

#4, I don't think the replacement unit ever lost power completely. After the Monger is dealt with, you can see it flicker and power back up as the screen fades out. It probably still had some reserve power (which JARVIS alluded to as Iron Man was falling out of the sky).

Like I said, they're probably weak rationalizations but make of them what you will. :)

Iron Man kicks ass!!!

Only Marvel movies that are better are Spider-man 1 & 2 (IMHO). ;-)

Can't wait for I.M. 2! ...also Thor, Ant-man, Sub-mariner, Avengers...

These movies are going to be SO much better now that Marvel is making them independently! (Fox sure screwed up Fantastic 4...) =(

Go see Iron Man!!

Wow... That Ewok song rox!!! Finally a song praising em!! *hugs her Wicket plushie* But man...Billie Dee Williams must be desperate for cash if he's actually willing to do a fan vid on characters he never even interacted with...

As for Iron Man. LOOOVED it and Im not even an Iron Man fan (I was on Capt America's side in the Civil War! :P). Now my fave character in the Iron Man books has always been Jarvis (he's a Skrull folks...watch out!) so it came as a complete shock when I saw the movie and realized... Jarvis is a computer. It was an interesting take on the character. Guess they didn't want people to compare him too much to Alfred.
