Another thing that was said we need to remember: this is an untold story. Details of how the characters met is sketchy at best. And as for saying “Captain Kirk would never say that,” well, this won’t be CAPTAIN Kirk. It will be Ensign Kirk, or Lieutenant Kirk, or whatnot. We’ll get to see the ways that Kirk grew and matured.

There will no doubt be inconsistencies,plot holes, techno-babble, and character interpretations. The bigger issue for me is that Star Trek came from a 1960’s perspective and it is 40 years into the future. The social norms, attitudes, and worldview have drastically changed. We all have become nostalgic about Star Trek and it is too easy to be a Trek snob and look down your nose-how many of us actually have the power to change what goes on the big or little screen. Enjoyment of Star Trek is like eating at a buffet there are a lot of different foods so take what you like from it and leave the rest. I will enjoy the buffet and go back for seconds!

#64, 65, etc. . . I’m also avoiding spoilers. I keep trying to swear off this entire website, but I seem incapable of that.

I also agree with #4’s comments. Very well said.

Ultimately the “Star Trek” we love is the one that holds occupancy in our own hearts. Corny but true. My conception of what’s important could well be different from yours: What I take from it is necessarily not what you take from it is not necessarily what he and she take from it. Some of us have rejected the ending of Generations, no? Or maybe most of us. But you see my point.

That said, I do have high hopes for this here baby. It sounds like everyone involved has their heads screwed on properly and their eyes on the prize, which is first and foremost a well-told tale.

#18: And yet, some people have assumed “this will suck” and have already declared that the movie will suck without seeing it. And some people have automatically thought “this will be awesome” and have declared that the movie will be awesome without seeing it.

I know it’s not politically correct around here, but I consider _both_ groups to be functionally identical to one another … anyone who has made up his/her mind this far in advance of actually seeing the film is just … well, it just ain’t logical :)

#64 … I’m glad you said that, Anthony. More reminders will probably be in order as we move through the next year. I for one stay OUT of spoiler threads! This summer, I am going to enjoy Indiana Jones and The Dark Knight so much more for avoiding spoilers and enjoying some surprises when I buy my tickets! I want the same to be true for Star Trek next year!!
